February 2016 Moms

What are you up to all day ?!

I have been home with my little guy for almost 3 weeks now. It's been a huge adjustment for me and the lack of sleep is killing me! I pretty much get up from bed, find my way to the couch and veg out for the day watching Netflix. I do a little laundry here and there and find something for us to eat, but most of my day is spent being a couch potato. This is my first, so I don't have any other children to take care of; besides my SO, sometimes I feel like I'm taking care of a child with him! I keep telling myself that I'm not going to spend all of my maternity leave on the couch! So, I'm curious, what are all you other moms doing all day? Am I the only one being SUPER lazy!?!?

I have a 5 year old so it's a bit different but so far today we watched a movie as a family and then I left baby with DH while me and DD headed to Target. When we got back I put my moby wrap on and we all went on a walk. Most days are spent vegging as much as possible but I do try to get outside with DD if the weather permits.

  • I also have a toddler but yup, with just baby it was chores and then feeding baby and watching Netflix, getting errands done when the weather was nice. My first was a summer baby so I could go out and see people, it's such an adjustment with baby in the cold!
  • I have 3 older children; 6 (7 tomorrow), 4 turning 5 in March and a 3 year old. Baby boy is 2 weeks tomorrow. My son has been home from a week break at school so we have been out and about. We go grocery shopping, go on target trips, we go get frozen yogurt, mall, park etc etc. My son goes back to school Monday so I'll be busy with taking him and picking him up, homwork etc. Try going out on walks, or lunch dates with friends/family. I live in southern Cali so weather is almost always nice. It's been high 80s here so that's why we are also going to the park daily etc. When we have our chill days we do watch movies, I'm always cleaning or I just hang out and let the kids play infront.
  • I don't remember exactly what I did on maternity leave with my first baby, but I can tell you that I did spend a good portion of it on the couch, and I don't regret it a bit!  If you enjoy it, there's nothing wrong with it!

Lurking from January.  I've pretty much just been hanging out on the couch or pacing back and forth across the living room with him when he's fussy.  The weather was nice today though, so we went outside for a walk.  That was a really nice change of pace.  I'm going to try to get out more now thathes getting older
Edit- posted before I was finished
  • Today I've been trying to stop crying because it's DH's first night back to work and I'm a wreck! I tried to not cry while he was at home because I didn't want him to feel guilty.

Plus us I have her newborn photo shoot tomorrow and I don't want to have puffy eyes!

How I wouldn't kill for a big fat drink right now!?!

i hear ya. DH's first day back is monday and i cry at the thought of it. it's such a scary feeling knowing you won't have that extra set of hands when all hell is breaking loose. I am trying to have faith in myself but to be honest i just don't know if i can do this by myself cause it seems like she's so fussy when it's just me looking after her. maybe it's all in my head.. either way, i totally know what you mean.

in terms of the original post.. FTM here being a total couch potato and a-okay with it. this new sleep schedule is just wrecking havoc on me and between the constant pumping/feeding schedule and her not falling asleep until about an hour or two after she eats, then her waking up an hour later for her next feeding and starting the cycle over, i am just fine with binge watching shows in between trying to keep baby girl calm.

i guess we're all just trying to do our best here huh..

  • With my first, I spent at least the first month camped out on the couch or pacing trying to get her to sleep. After about a month, I started feeling more "normal" again, and would go on walks or quick trips to the store.

Since this will be #2, I won't have that lounge time, and I sure will miss it! I say enjoy it.. You won't have this good excuse forever.

  • With my first we spent a lot of time on the couch. Enjoy it---if you have another it's impossible to do. My first was also a January baby so we're used to the cold. After about a month I started to take DS1 and walk at the mall at least twice a week just to get out of the house. Now with DS2 it's a bit tougher to get out of the house with DS1 in tow. I'm trying to keep us all protected from cold and flu germs that seem to be going around. Even some of the play dates I've had scheduled to come over for DS1 cancelled on us in the last week because thier kids were sick. :( I do appreciate the parents protecting my newborn but it's a bummer for DS1 whose used to playing with kids at daycare. Hoping the weather warms up soon with an early spring and we can go to the park and outside for more walks. I have been trying to take DS out to target or even for a walk around the block for our own sanity of being locked up in the house all the time with DH is home.

I would kill for snuggles and Netflix all day even for just one day. Unfortunately my three year old isn't often interested in sitting in one place for long. Enjoy it!

  • I will keep enjoying my lazy days then! It doesn't help that it's cold, if it was summer, I feel like we could get out a little more!
  • @g0lightly8706 It was a rough night! I cried most of the night. My eyes look like punching bags! Which sucks because we have our newborn pics today! Guess it just can't have my face in the pictures.  :/

Just get some good movies and a big bowl of ice cream! It helps... just a little!

    Good luck lady!!
  • I have been packing to move lately. Usually, I get up to at least one crying baby. Feed whoever is hungry and change them. I get an easy breakfast for my two older boys and change the one still in diapers. Then we veg out watching cartoons because at this point the twins are sleeping again. I cuddle my older two and sneak in a nap. Then I get up and feed and change the twins, try to do a few dishes here and there. With the move happening this week I'll be using any "free" time to move boxes and finish packing.

  • Today was my first day alone with Graeme who just turned a month old. A lot of time was spent on the couch, though I'm proud of myself for eating breakfast and lunch, and for getting the dishes done! Baby steps, guys.
