Introducing Michael Patrick

Last Saturday night while getting ready for bed I noticed some mucus pieces in the toilet. I became excited an anxious at 40w3d. At 1:40am I awoke to a contraction and when I used the bathroom my full "bloody show" had appeared. Contractions started consistently every 20 minutes from there. By about 9 am they were 10-15 minutes apart and painful, but bearable. By 6pm they were 5 minutes apart and the pain was becoming a bit much so we decided to head in. Contractions were very consistent and the pain had increased to where I was starting to swear and need to do something to try and get myself through the first parts of them. Doctor checked me and said- 2 cms! I was so upset because they considered sending me home after I had already been in this process for about 16 hours. They decided to let me stay as I was due to come in Monday night for an induction first thing Tuesday morning at 40w5d. To keep my contractions consistent, and get the dialating to continue they gave me some pitocin at about 2am. By about 9 they decided to have me begin to push. Nothing was really happening since baby was face up and a somewhat sideways. He was stuck. I rested for about an hour to see if anything would change, plus I needed some energy to really give this a "go". By 10 am I was pushing again. For about two hours we really went for it. My doctor said he just wasn't becoming unstuck and after 2 hours of strong pushing she could still push him right back into the womb, no problem. She thought the emergency c-section would be best and after about 35 hours of labor, I agreed.

We went into the OR a little after noon. Things started OK, but he really was stuck and my uterus tore and I began hemmoraging. They got him out, stopped the bleeding, and got me all put back together. I recieved a blood transfusion and suffered a bit while they were finishing up, but by the time it was over, all I could concentrate on was my beautiful, big, healthy baby boy.

Michael Patrick was born at 12:52pm Feb 15th weighing 8lbs 8ozs and stretching 22" long. He latched like a champ right away and he's a breastfeeding machine!

The birth was certainly a bit traumatic and I have a long ways to go in the healing department, but Michael is the most wonderful thing ever so nothing but joy and happiness over here.

God bless all of our newborns and the rest of the Feb 2016 clan yet to come!
