Bleeding and scared :(

This morning I went to the bathroom and had a significant amount of blood when I wiped. More than spotting but less than a full blown period. Luckily my Dr office got me in immediately and I got an ultrasound. I saw our little one and he/she had a heartbeat which was a relief. But it wasn't super high (106) and I'm measuring a bit earlier than I thought (5w6d vs 6w2d). Doctor said its a subchorianic hemmorage which could be nothing, or could be a precursor to a miscarriage. Now I just have to wait things out. I'm so sad and so scared :( If you can, please say a little prayer for this little one to hang in there! (And also... Does anyone have any experience with this?)

  • @cd92007 , no experience with this...but I hope it goes well for you and baby.  I think the fact that you saw the baby's heartbeat should be reassuring, right?

Keeping my fingers crossed for you.  Sorry you are having to deal with this.

  • Prayers and good vibes your way. I don't have much experience with this but best you can do if fallow DR orders and try and stay calm. I know it's hard but added stress won't help you or baby. Hoping everything works out well and ur little one stays put.
  • Measurements can be off by about 4 days either way and 106 is a good heart rate. Yesterday I measured 6 weeks 3 days with a heart rate of 115 and my doctor was very happy. So don't worry about those two things.

As for the spotting and hemorrhage, these are both very common. I just got my US report in my email this morning and freaked out when I saw that I had a hemorrhage that no one mentioned. I called the nurse and she said it was nothing to worry about and it usually resolves itself on it's own. MCs are, unfortunately, always a possibility. But what you're describing sounds pretty common. Try not to stress yourself out until you know more.

  • Thank you @krzyriver. I think the worst part is seeing bright red blood and just waiting for it to either go away or get worse  :(

  • I'll keep you in my prayers! I know it's scary but getting to hear a heartbeat it definitely good news!
  • I'm so sorry you're going through this! Just try to keep your mind off of it. I know that's way easier said than done, but unfortunately, worrying and wondering isn't going to change anything.

You'll be in my thoughts and prayers!

  • I'm sorry you are experiencing bleeding but glad you were proactive in going for an ultrasound.  I've had spotting on and off this pregnancy, but I had a day where I had severe cramping and bleeding, which turned out to be a complete miscarriage of a twin.  I went for an ultrasound as well and I wish I could get one done every other day to be sure that the one still inside me is still doing okay.  That's not logical or rational though, so I try to just take it a day at a time, and sometimes just a moment at a time.  I'm hoping that your little one stays strong and it gets easier for you each day.

  • I had a SCH with my first pregnancy. There was some spotting here and there during my second trimester but they just keep an eye on it and most of the time they resolve themselves.

This time around, I've been bleeding and spotting for three weeks. I was told not to worry, side effects of Progesterone, common, etc. Yesterday afternoon I started cramping, and had heavy bleeding with clots - I was up all night and the bleeding didn't let up until 7am. My RE got me in this morning and, like @Piperella, I was told that I most likely lost a twin as he couldn't find any other cause for the bleeding. The little bean that's in there now is measuring on target and has a heart rate of 91 bpm which the RE said was totally normal for this early on. Their heart rates will get higher and higher each week.

The waiting and not knowing is excruciating, but everything can be just fine. And yes, I will say a prayer for you and your LO.

  • I'm sorry! Bleeding  is always so scary. I hope everything  is  okay!
  • I had this with my first pregnancy. Once at 7 weeks and again at 16 weeks. My baby measured small but once my blood clot resolved itself my baby caught up in size.

I was put on bed rest for two days and easy duty til the clot disappeared. Oh and pelvic rest. No sex. It was awful.

It all depends on the size of clot/ bleed. Large ones could cause a separation of the placenta from the uterus ending in miscarriage. But it's not common. Just take it easy and no jostling. Hope this helps.
  • Just wanted to say I'm so very sorry to hear the same thing happened to you,  @Hillzy30.  I'm so glad you also still have a LO growing healthy with a beautiful heartbeat to boot!
  • Thinking of you all! Some up to some bleeding myself this morning...light pink, but covered the toilet paper. My husband and I were intimate last night, no intercourse, but had the Big O...hoping the muscle contractions had something to do with it?! Needless to say, he's on his own for awhile now! No real cramping and it's kind of turned dark red/brownish. I'm 5w4d. Freaking out cuz I had a chemical pregnancy in October at 6 weeks...though my HCG levels measured only 2-3. I got a strong positive at barely 4 weeks this time! So maybe just early signs of miscarriage? Of course it's Saturday, so can't really call doctor til Monday... Going to be a long weekend...
  • Just went in Friday for my first appointment and I am 6 weeks 6 days (this is my third pregnancy- I have a 4 and 2 year old). They noticed a blood clot- dr said I should be prepared to see blood and plan to come back in in two weeks for another ultrasound.
Praying for you and trying not to worry myself!

  • You are not alone. I am experiencing it too. Had SCH for 3 weeks now. Am 10 weeks. Yes its scary but once you hear that heartbeat everything is fine.
Saw my doc he termed it as a "threatened miscarry". well thats the medical term they use. Don't get so stressed out. Make sure u take a lot of  bed rest for like a whole week and relax, dont stand or walk for too long, eat healthy and ofcourse no sex until the bleeding stops.

Am currently on Duphaston meds to manage the bleeding and hormone levels.Plus my doc said not all blood that is used to form the baby  is used, the unused comes out.so don't worry too much. My prayers are with you all going through this. We will survive this.
I hope this helps you and you feel more calm.
  • Something else i dint mention. As long as the spotting aint coming out with clots and you arent having severe cramps then you should be fine. Wishing you all the best.
  • Praying for you! My best friend is 10 weeks right now and had a SH which bled for two days and then stopped. Her Dr said if bleeding didn't stop, she would need another ultrasound. Baby is fine and thr SH went away on its own. Theyre fairly common. And miscarriage is always possible (even after you see/hear a heartbeat). Hang in there. Waiting and not knowing is hard but try to be as calm and restful as possible!

  • So sorry for what you are going through! I am praying for you.

My last pregnancy I had a subchorionic hemorrhage, and the pregnancy did end in a miscarriage. BUT I was told that the SH had nothing to do with the miscarriage, and that having one is not predictive of having a miscarriage. I was told that they typically resolve on their own if the pregnancy is healthy. I know it's so hard to do this (and I would be freaking out too) but just focus on all of the good signs and try not to obsess about the potential bad stuff. Wishing you peace and happiness and a healthy pregnancy!
  • thinking of you and baby. I'm sorry you and the other ladies are going through this or have experienced it. keep us posted.

@cdn2007 glad to hear things are looking good!

I had my first sonogram today and they noticed blood clotting in my uterus.  She said only light exercise(not even the elliptical), but said I don't need an extra sonogram to check again.  Of course I thought of questions after I left.   The good news is the baby looks good, and had a strong heartbeat of 165!  Has anyone else HS a blood clot at their ultrasound, without any bleeding?

edited: I just called back to get more instructions/and a better idea of what my situation and restrictions are.  They told me mine is a subchorionic hemmorage too.  Apparently I am supposed to be on pelvic rest, which means no sex and no exercise except walking and maybe swimming.  They said if everything looks good in 3 weeks at my 12 week I'll probably be removed from pelvic rest.

I can't believe the dr didn't tell me more the day of my appointment!

how's everyone else with the subchorionic hemmorages doing?  Are you also on pelvic rest?
  • Dr noticed a blood clot in my US but no bleeding. I go in for another US next week.
