Extreme Chills/Body shaking

Ok, already called doc and they told me to monitor and take my temp if it happens again.
Last night, I got up to go pee and suddenly felt this wave of cold come over my body. I was freezing and physically shaking uncontrollably. It was really painful and scary. My husband had to rub my body until I warmed up. We live in Texas so it's not THAT cold at night here. And my husband wasn't cold either. So I laid in bed until I felt better and then felt absolutely exhausted after the whole thing. I feel fine today. Just overslept this morning. But other than that things seem to be ok.

Anyone else had absolute horrible chills? And if so has your Doctor given you a reason?

Re: Extreme Chills/Body shaking

  • No experience - just sorry you had to go through that! Did you take your temperature? If it wasn't a fever, I wonder if it could have been low blood sugar? Maybe try eating something if it happens again.

  • This has been happening to me DAILY !!!! My husband thinks I'm nuts, actually he says what the hell is wrong with you lol I keep turning the heat up (cleveland here) burying myself under blankets. Happens most often at nite when I get up to pee but does occasionally happen during the day too.its on my lost of questions for next ob appt next week.
  • @karaszoo1 you have no idea how relieved I feel to know it's not just me! If it happens again I may go to the OB. But when you go to your appt I'm dying to know what she says!

ill keep the thermometer with me and if happens again I'm checking that temp!
  • He's actually checked mine a few times and it's 97.7 every.dang.time.. my appt is in a week so we shall see.it literally just a happened when I got up to pee (not feeling well so being a bum in bed since about 7) so when I say it happens daily I am not exaggerating lol and it's so annoying I mean I'm freezing shaking teeth chattering etc
  • @karaszoo1 that's nuts!!! It sucks and hurts!! I have a Doppler so I've heard the baby in there, I just worry about infection or something. But I don't have fever!
  • @bananers thanks girl! It's really scary and painful if that makes sense. It's this horrible cold that you can't fix with covers or anything you literally have to wait for your body warm back up.
  • Sometimes having a thyroid problem can make you really cold, as can anemia. I've been freezing cold this pregnancy as well, but not to the point that some of you have discussed. My temperature is fine, my OB checked my thyroid (which was fine), and I was mildly anemic.  The anemia was so mild though I doubt that's why I'm feeling colder than usual all the time.

As an aside, a few years ago I fainted after getting up in the middle of the night to pee.  The one odd thing I remember about the incident (well, besides fainting) is how unbelieveably cold I was for 20-30 minutes after it happened.  I've never been that cold before.  I wonder if it has something to do with your circulation?

Anyway, if it's happening a lot, definitely talk to you OB about it.  Hopefully, though, it's a one-time thing for those of you who are experiencing this.
  • At night if I'm really tired I have extreme chills too, so strange!
