Pregnancy and Heart Rate

What has your heart rate been? I saw an article where a lady found out she was preg because her fitbit showed a higher pulse. Has yours gone up? I want to be sure mine is not going abnormally high... will actually see a cardiologist monday to get checked out.
Here are my averages...
sitting/resting pulse- 100
standing goes up to 110-115
walking, bathing kids, cooking, etc - 130 up to 145
Married - 4/7/07
Son #1- 2/15/08
Son #2- 8/18/10
Baby 3 due 8/8/16

Re: Pregnancy and Heart Rate

  • I was told by my OB this is normal and a part of pregnancy with the increased blood flow. But I definitely panicked about this when I first got pregnant. My resting heart rate before pregnancy was the upper 50s, low 60s and I was diagnosed with benign PVCs (heart palpitations). Since getting pregnant it's gone up to the 90s and my palpitations have increased significantly. My OB is not concerned at all and neither is my cardiologist. I'm glad you're seeing your cardiologist just in case though. I'm one of those people who likes to get things checked out just in case even if nothing's wrong. Especially when it comes to the heart.

This is comforting! I am glad I will have it checked out just to be safe, but glad to hear that other's go really high too. Makes me nervous about any exercising. Especially when I get shortness of breath.

  • This is normal, I'm not sure you need to see a cardiologist for it. They're probably just going to tell you that it happens in pregnancy because you increase your blood supply. If your OB isn't concerned then I'd save a trip and money and skip the cardiologist. A resting HR of 60-100 is considered normal.

  • @searchingforameaning I'm right there with you! That in combination with the shortness of breath makes me afraid to exercise. And I do worry from time to time. But I've been told it's normal by a cardiologist and my OB, which makes me feel much better!
  • if it makes you ladies feel any better when I exercise, which consists of doing the elliptical for 45 mins or so and some core workouts I hardly ever get any SOB but going up stairs or other simple activities I do. It's strange but again it's normal. I don't get my HR above 150 on the elliptical and I always feel better after wards.  :)
