Moving to Midland, Michigan-need advice

Hi everyone. My husband and I will be moving to Midland, Michigan when I'll be about 30 weeks into our first pregnancy. It's for a job opportunity for him, so we didn't have any choice on timing. We have no relatives or friends there to suggest obgyns or pediatricians. Wondering if anyone is from the area and could make any suggestions. Thanks!!

  • I live in Michigan but not in that area so I have no idea who is good. I do believe that you should start calling around now and getting something lined up. 30 weeks is pretty close to the end to wait it out and risk not having a doctor when you go into labor. A lot of doctors will do a phone appointment with you to get all of your info and let you ask questions. Good luck!

  • No advice on the area but when I was moving at 33 weeks along with DS most practices said they'd take new pregnant patients up through 32 weeks.
  • There is a local boards section on the bump, you might try reaching out there. There are new moms / moms to be from all BMB's!

  • I am also from Michigan, but metro Detroit so I can't help you with recommendations.

I am moving at some point in my pregnancy (timing isn't set yet) so I feel you on finding a new doctor. My current OB said most doctors will take you fairly late as long as you have documented quality prenatal care up until that point. Each practice will have different rules on their deadline and requirements. Plus, most offices cap their patients at a certain number. My OB suggested I start calling now and already get one lined up, even if I won't need to switch over until the third tri, just to make sure there's one that has room for me.

Also, try to see if there are any mom groups or pregnancy groups on Facebook for the area! They'd be a great resource for doctors, child care, etc.

  • Thanks everyone! I've started looking at options for OBs in the area, but didn't know which would be best. I will start calling around next week. Also will start a hunt for pregnancy groups for that area. :)
