How Many Months Am I?

First, sorry if this has already come up. I vaguely recall this conversation somewhere but can't find it when I search. It took me a while to get this the first time around too!

I am 10 weeks (tomorrow) so how many months am I? Some sites say 2 and others say 3. I don't want to fill out the pregnancy journal wrong

    I use this calendar.  https://www.justmommies.com/pregnancy_calendar.php
Although I never say how many months I am.  I always just use weeks.

ETA: But now that I look at it they go every 4 weeks is a month, which isn't always right.   Just another reason I use weeks.

  • I prefer weeks to months as well, but I one time read that you're considered 1 month the date of your missed period. Each month would subsequently fall on that same day. At 10 weeks, you're 2 months along. You're in your 3rd month, though, which may be causing the confusion. (Because your 1st month, you aren't yet 1 month, your 2nd month, you aren't yet 2 months, and so on and so forth.)

    This is correct ^

It depends on the day of your last period (even if that's not super accurate for everyone). Mine was Dec 4th, so I was 1 month on Jan 4th, 2 on Feb 4th and so on. You are probably somewhere around 2 and a half months, which means you entered the third month of your pregnancy already.

For months I like to think backwards from my due date. In theory I'm due 9/12 so I'll be 9 months pregnant on 9/12.  Using this way, I was 2 months pregnant on 2/12, and 3 months on 3/12. I'll be 8 months pregnant on 8/12.
ETA: This way I can say I'm 3 months pregnant... about 6 months to go! I also prefer weeks though.

I do it this way. It's the least confusing and most accurate. It infuriates me when people use 4 weeks as a month and then complain that pregnancy is really ten months.  Nope.

  • The date of my LMP was 12/18. So I will be 9 weeks tomorrow (my ticker change day is Friday) and am 2 months pregnant (have completed 2 months of pregnancy) today, 2/18.  At least that's how I did it the two time before.  I will be 9 months and some days if I delivery on my EDD.

  • On what planet does 10 weeks = 3 months!?!?

  • I count months like I count age: I'm not a year older until I complete the preceding year. DS did not start out 1 year old when he began his first year. I would consider myself 1 month more pregnant with each passing 4.33 weeks.

Because I am particular with weeks:months ratio, I also prefer to go by weeks.

  • So technically don't announce until 14 weeks (3 months)?? Something about your period and the egg...not necessarily counting from conception...
  • So glad there are so many on this board that realize 40 weeks =/= ten months.

  • @frogdog06 You aren't out of first tri until 14 weeks. However, announce whenever you feel comfortable announcing.

  • I use this to help https://www.timeanddate.com/date/duration.html

Just enter your LMP date* and then today's date and click calculate. It will tell you how many days, weeks and months you are.

*If your LMP isn't accurate (mine wasn't, as I found out in the dating scan) just count back however many weeks+days you are currently and use that date going forward.
