Sleeping w/ Wubbanub?

Wanted to get thoughts on using a Wubbanub at nighttime. After his bedtime feed (EBF), LO always takes his paci while I'm rocking him to sleep. Once he's in a deep enough sleep it falls out and I just hang onto it until I lay him down. Throughout the night, however, he sometimes wakes up and needs his paci to soothe himself back to sleep, so I roll over and give it to him (he still sleeps next to our bed because of the way our house is set up - not comfortable with him being on another floor just yet). A lot of times when I give him his paci throughout the night he has a hard time holding onto it (mainly because he's so drowsy and isn't trying very hard). I'm wondering if I should use his Wubbanub for MOTN pop-ins instead of a regular paci. We use a Wub in his car seat and swing, and it's heavenly. Just wondering if it's safe to use at night. Right now he is still swaddled, so I know he can't cover his face with it or anything like that. Honestly, I'm not even sure the Wubbanub is big enough to be a safety hazard, but I wanted to get opinions of others. Soon we will be transitioning him to a Zippadeezip and into Pack N Play (instead of bassinet/mini crib type of thing he is in now), and I'm thinking the Wub would cut down on MOTN pop-ins. Plus, he's learning to hold onto things now and I think it soothes him to hold onto the animal part. So, long story long, what are your thoughts on this?

Re: Sleeping w/ Wubbanub?

  • LO LOVES her wubbanub! She doesn't actually need to suck on the paci mid-sleep but she definitely clings to the animal all night long. It's her version of a lovie. I say go for it!

  • Not actually answering your question but I noticed your said you'd be transitioning to the pack n play. That was our idea too but I found out from another post the bassinet in the pack n play only goes to 15 lbs. I read the manual and yep there's a weight limit. Now we'll have to either bring the crib downstairs or I get to move into the guest room upstairs.
  • @zetlopez, good to know! Thanks! LO is definitely 15 lbs, or pretty close. Forgive me if this is a stupid question (FTM here and I haven't actually put the Pack N Play together yet), but can't be sleep in the playard part? I was thinking it could serve as his crib for now. There's no way we can get his actual crib from his room to our room.
  • @jadi1215 baby can definitely sleep in play yard part. It is just really low to the ground and will likely be hard to lay baby down into.

  • @tracij12 thank you! I think we have one with an adjustable playard that can be lifted if needed.
  • My LO sleeps with his wubby. He loves it and a lot of times with him turning he ends up losing it but it's always close to him. He is obsessed with it. He stares at his cow anytime he catches sight of it. He loves when it's across his face as he sleeps, only during the day since he isn't swaddled then. The wubby at night is so much easier than just the soothie. We're going to be using a Zipadee zip once we order and get it in. He is learning to break free of his Velcro swaddle. This morning his whole arm was out lol.
  • This is my second child and both of my babies were/are Wubbanub babies <3 night and day!
  • @jadi1215 mine has the lifted thing as well. I may be confused/wrong but I thought the lifted thing is what they considered the bassinet so that is what that weight limit is for. Honestly though we've had LO sleeping in hers since we brought her home and it seems like it could hold far more than 15lbs.

  • My lo sleeps in the crib in a swaddleup so she cant hold the wubby but she naps in the rock n play without a swaddle and clings to the wubby the entire time. Its darling.

Personally I would not, because the animal can still cover his airway in the middle of the night. Have you thought about using a different paci that is easier to hold on to (as in, with their mouth)? Something wider/bigger than the soothie, like MAM or the Avent orthodontic kind. My LO always had a hard time keeping the soothie in, even with the wubbanub, I think because the sucking part is so narrow.
  • @tracij12 @jadi1215 you could put baby in the play yard part but it's really low and hard to get baby in and out. I also believe the lifted part you're talking about is the bassinet. FTM as well so I'm no expert but it wouldn't hurt to check the manual. It definitely seems like it should hold more than 15 lbs which is why I didn't believe it when I saw it in a post weeks ago. I personally don't want to risk the chance that it could fall while my baby is sleeping bc I didn't follow the weight limit. Sucks but looks like baby and I will be moving upstairs next week. Him in his crib and me in the guest room.

my pack n play has the lifted part (which LO sleeps in now) and a bassinet that fit onto the top opposite the removable diaper changing station.  We never used the bassinet because it was to confining for me to relax with her in there.

This is the exact one we have.  We used the changing part for awhile but it is removed now and we never used the bassinet.  LP sleeps in the raised part during the night.

Oh and LO sleeps with a wubbanub all the time.  She doesn't so much use the paci part as she loves holding and playing with the animal.
  • @abkenyon mine is similar to yours. It's not this exact model but this is pretty much it https://www.gracobaby.com/products/pages/pack-n-play-playard-newborn-napper-soothe-surround-eli.aspx

Graco calls the raised part the bassinet and the other part the napper. I think that may be where the confusion is coming from. My graco model has a weight limit of 15 lbs for the raised part. Not sure about the others but like I said it won't hurt to check the manual

I like your 'napper' better.  Not confining like mine.  I wouldn't have minded her sleeping in that the first few weeks.
