Slipped and fell-not sure if should go to doctor's?

Well I made a gracious entrance at the office today by slipping and falling when coming out of the elevator (didn't wipe my boots enough I guess). It wasn't anything serious: my left knee took the hit and it's a little red, but that's it. I have an OB appointment this Friday. Is it worth going in before just to be sure everything is fine? Other than the obvious bleeding and no movement, anything I should be on the lookout for?

Re: Slipped and fell-not sure if should go to doctor's?

  • You'll be fine. I took a massive fall a couple of weeks ago on some ice. Fell onto my back and hit my head. OB said as long as there's no cramping, bleeding or loss of fluids then it's not an issue. Baby is well protected. Just let them know on Friday :) hope that helps. Glad you're ok!!

  • Most of the time, falls like that are fine, but I'd probably call your doctor's office just to let them know. Sometimes they'll tel you symptoms to watch out for, or may want to see you earlier as a precaution. Take it easy today and consider icing your knee if you can-- swollen joints, especially during pregnancy, are no fun.
  • ^agree. At least let them know. I fell down the steps awhile back and my Dr said call for any fall just so they get it down in my file. They like to know when these things happen.
  • I slipped on my basement steps a few weeks back and landed straight down on the step just below me. I called my doctor thinking that he'd just have me watch out for signs that something was wrong, since the fall wasn't bad. But he actually sent me straight to Labor & Delivery to be monitored for two hours. It was a huge pain to take three hours out of a weekday morning since it wasn't "that bad," but you just don't know what harm a sudden impact can have (doctor's concern was more for the placenta than baby). Everything was fine, and I was glad I went to be safe.
  • Thanks for your feedback ladies. I just called and they told me to go straight to the hospital to get checked because I'm 29 weeks.
  • I got to be hooked on to monitors for a 1hr or so nonstress test (talk about taking a mid-day nap hearing your baby's heartbeat the whole time). All is fine, so got to go back to work. The nurse was insistant that I tell the building manager that there needs to be carpets in front of all elevators (where it's tiled)...so came back to work and took care of that.
  • I had a slip and fall at work a few weeks ago. I felt fine BUT after I mentioned my fall to a coworker, I was told I'm supposed to report it to my supervisor. They had to do a claim through workers comp and send me to occupational medicine to get checked. Since I was about 24 weeks, occupational medicine sent me to the hospital  to get hooked up to check on the baby.  All was fine, I just didn't know I was supposed to report it.

All this to say make sure you report it at work.
  • I slipped and fell face first at work this week. My knee and face most the impact. After my SO went into papa bear mode and got upset that I hadn't called the Dr I gave them a call. They didn't seem worried until they asked if I had felt movement and I said no. I'm 27 weeks, but was working a big event so I wasn't paying attention for movement. They had me leave my event immediately to be monitored for 20 minutes. Honestly I felt a million times better hearing that sweet little heartbeat even if it did mean leaving in the middle of my event which I've never missed.
