first appointment

I'm finally having my first appointment on Friday. whoohoo. But I'm a little bummed since my husband can't go. They asked not to bring little siblings to this appointment and we don't have any one who can watch lo. It's so fun to hear the heartbeat and see the first picture. I know my hubs is kind of disappointed but he won't say so.

My husband can't take off that often so he will probably only be going to the anatomy scan appointment. Luckily my docs office puts the u/s o a usb so I can bring it home and he can watch it. To me it's not that big of a deal. But I also told him he's not using one of his vacations after I have the baby either. I want to go on vacation this summer and not use it for him after the baby is born lol

My first appointment was uneventful, they scheduled me back for the ultrasound. Good luck!

I also need DH home with DS so I'll be soloing the appointment. I'll be to early to hear the hb with a Doppler but I'll get my first (crappy because it's on ancient equipment but good enough for dating) ultrasound and I'll bring him the sonogram.

I'll be going alone, too. I don't know why, but I want this first one to be just me. DH and DD can go to a later one.

My first appointment wasn't an u/s, just a "confirmation of pregnancy" appointment. Ultrasound was scheduled after that appointment was done.

FWIW, DH wasn't able to make the first u/s. I know he wanted to be there but couldn't. No sense in getting too upset over it. I showed him the photos and he'll be at the next one.

They said this appointment will be longer than normal ones and that is why they don't want Lo to come.

Are you actually having an ultrasound? How far along are you?

Generally at first appointments you do some paperwork, answer a lot of health questions. They go over procedure and what-to-expect kinds of things, then schedule your first ultrasound. Of course, every DR is different, this has just been my experience.

based on my lmp I am 10 weeks. I saw the same dr last baby and they did a transvaginal us at the first appointment, which was actually sooner than this one. So I'm just assuming it will be the same but I don't know. They have an us machine there in the office so they just whip it out for stuff. To get the fancier ones, like the anatomy scan you have to go to a different office though.

My husband is gone all the time. We're lucky if he gets to one or two appointments. I've used Facetime in the past so he could hear the hb with me, but it ended up being no huge deal in the end.

I had to come to two separate appointments. The first one was just a blood draw and a meeting with the nurse where she tells me not to smoke and eat fish with high Mercury levels. Now I'm coming back a week later to get right down to business.

Same here! My first appointment is Monday and I specifically scheduled it so my husband could make it, but they changed his production schedule that day. I'm very sad that he won't be there for the first ultrasound. I went to all but 3 appointments alone with the last baby, but never an ultrasound appointment.

My first appointment is tomorrow too, but it will just be a nurse and health questions and confirmation of pregnancy.

My OB's office does the first appt with the nurse practitioner, but it also includes and u/s first. I don't know if it's because they are located in a hospital or what, but the OBs at the practice don't read the u/s. They have another dr that reads them and relays important info.
