Pump it up

how do I get a pump through insurance? Anyone go through yummy mummy?

Re: Pump it up

  • Your OB or midwife will probably have a preferred website or other method of getting you one. I'd check with them first just to be sure.

Im using edgepark.com for mine. They bug my midwife for an order of approval before submitting the claim and shipping it to me but I don't need to do too much. She has an account with them so they have her info.

  • I had to get a list of approved durable medical equipment providers that my insurance works with. I just called them up and they emailed me a list.
  • My insurance told me which medical supply store to go through. I just called them and asked.

  • My doctor wrote me a prescription for the breast pump and i called my insurance to find out where i could order from. They had a couple different options/ brands but they only covered the more basic models so i had to pay about $75 extra to get the Medela model i wanted. I got it pretty quickly once i ordered.
  • I have Aetna and logged into the site (where I look up in-network doctors, etc) and just searched "breast pump". It brought up a list of medical suppliers and I just picked one and it had a form for me to fill out. They faxed it (or something) to my doctor one month before my due date and it showed up on my door step 2 days later. All I really had to do was fill in my doctor's information and due date.

  • I'm also going through edge park to get mine, but have to wait till 28 weeks (only 4 more weeks left!) to be able to order it.

  • I would call insurance and find out what they cover. Mine only covered hand pumps. I have a medical condition which means using a hand pump would be impossible for me. So they essentially covered nothing for me.
  • Yep, my insurance actually pays for ZERO toward a pump of any kind or lactation consultant.  Most plans do cover one, though.

  • I just called my insurance info number and they had me choose between two over the phone. They mailed it to me that same month. They included milk storage bags too.

  • Also, went through edgepark. I didnt need to wait until i was a certain number of weeks to get one, but my cousin did. Its insurance dependent. The website is easy, you just fill in your info, the pump you want, they contact your doc for an RX and they put it through your insurance and ship it. I have empire bcbs ppo, didnt pay a dime and I got the Medela pump. Good luck!!
  • I can buy one off amazon and be reimbursed or go through a dme.  I'm going through amazon to get the one i want

  • I just ordered mine through Aeroflow. You fill out an online info thing with your insurance information, and then they call your insurance company and your doctor if needed. They sent me an email showing which pumps I qualify for, and some upgrades I can pay for. I got the Medela PISA and paid for the metro bag as an upgrade. I just got the email that it shipped today.  It was really painless. I had called my ins company first but they actually were not very helpful. Aeroflow did all the legwork.
  • Ditto what PP have said. I actually called my insurance Friday to find out because my next appointment is at 28 weeks. I'm so glad I did! I work for the public school system and have CIGNA. They gave me the number to the supplier who then gave me 4 options, one of which is Medela and if I choose to go with Medela (which I am) I have to send my prescription from the Dr directly to them. Every insurance is different but most of my Mom friends were told to get the script at 28 weeks, and that's also what CIGNA told us to do. We're lucky in that the bump is covered at 100%...so yay for that!

  • I also went through Aeroflow and it was SO easy. I also didn't have to wait until I was 28 weeks like alot of people do. I just filled out all my info and they contacted my ins company, within the week I had my new pump on my doorstep. Easiest thing I've had to do so far!
  • I just called my insurance today - I have BCBS and live in NJ.

They are sending me a Medela Freestyle electric pump with a couple accessories, 100% free and should arrive within 7-10 business days.

    Definitely worth the call!!!
