This is an issue I've had at the second half of the third trimester in both my pregnancies. It's not constant, but I can get really loud.  I just had a scary episode where I awoke finding it kind of hard to catch my breath.  No weight problems and I am sleeping on my side.  I am going to get up and try saline, but I'm scared to go back to sleep!  Advice please?  With 3 weeks to go, I don't think I'll need a cpap machine, but I definitely don't want to stop breathing in my sleep!

  • This happened to me. I had to sleep in a recliner and that helped a lot. Your body will wake you up when you're not getting enough oxygen. Also try a neti pot to clear out your nose before going to bed but be sure to use distiller water. 
  • Your nasal passages are likely swollen. It's really common. I agree with PP that sleeping in a chair or with pillows propped behind your head will help.

  • I'm dealing with the same made worse by a cold.  I've startled myself awake several times from not breathing, as well.  Proping up with pillows, a humidifier and a bit of Vicks Vapor Rub has helped me get through the cold and extra snoring/breathing issue.
  • Oh the snoring is so bad over here.  I got breathe right nasal strips and it seems to have helped immensely as far as clear breathing goes.  I don't think my husband agrees though.

  • I feel bad for my husband because the snoring is bad! However, it was more like apnea earlier in the pregnancy and now it's just straight snoring, so I'm breathing at least.
