My little one will lay with her binky contently but she often spits it out and it turns into a game of how many times she can make mommy get up in 30 minutes. I've recently found that letting her cry for just a little (2 or 3 minutes) and then giving her the binky back is enough to let her release some energy so it's easier to put herself to sleep. When she does this it's mostly fussing, not true crying. She is 16 weeks btw.
Same as PP---if baby girl is not hungry and has a clean diaper, I let her fuss for a few minutes and usually she drifts off by herself which is much nicer....it seems as though she sleeps more soundly when she falls asleep on her own. I have discovered this by accident---my 4 year old son had an accident (missed the toilet when peeing) and i was cleaning him and the bathroom up and baby was fussing. I knew she wasnt hungry or dirty, so I didn't rush to get her. By the time we were done in the bathroom (maybe 5 minutes) she was passed out in her crib.

This! LO cries it out quite a bit simply because I'm busy with her big sister. She's never hysterical though and almost always ends up falling asleep on her own.
I let my LO fuss for about 5min and I will quietly check on him if he's not hysterical I usually let him stay how he is since sometimes it takes him 10-15mins to actually fall asleep (he tends to talk to his mobile and himself so I don't bother to pick him up to get him back to sleep). If he is hysterical at the 5-10min mark I usually pick him up quietly and don't talk to him just put a soother in and shush him while gently rocking him and when he starts to drift off I put him back down. I always make sure to put him to sleep when he is drowsy not asleep!!
Same as PP. I usually put DS down when he's only drowsy, not completely asleep. If he fusses, I'll leave him for 5 min and keep an eye on the video monitor. Usually in the 5-10 min range I'll know if he's going to stay in the crib, or if I need to take him out again for a while. If he's truly crying I'll come back and comfort him right away.
Edited for auto-correct. And it's been a long night.
LO can put herself to sleep if we lay her down when she is starting to fall asleep in our arms or even just drowsy or getting crabby because she is very ready to sleep! But if she fuses I will let her be until I see which way it goes. If she is really ready to sleep, she will fall asleep. If she isn't and starts crying (often smiling when we she sees us)...we got get her and play a little more or cuddle her until she is ready to sleep and we try again. During the night is different, we know she is tired so we let her kick around and whine (she usually doesn't full on cry unless hungry or dirty) until she puts herself to sleep
Re: Do you let your baby cry going down for a nap?
