Like the longer first name with short middle, so voted Benjamin .. Owen would be better if it were Owen Jonathan in my opinion... Both are good names though.
@Rshapiro86@SmrBrd2012 Sure, but with that logic, Owen isn't trendy, either, just "popular." It's a saint name, if I'm remembering correctly! (To my understanding, trendy simply means "in fashion." Both names are "in fashion" right now.)

I agree that I think it's a popular name and not quite in the same category as trendy as, for example, Harper, but I'm kind of a nerd so I had looked up Owen stats and, it is kind of trendy right now...
It was in the 400s in the 1990s and has skyrocketed to #36, so, moderately trendy IMO.
Benjamin, however, has seen a more steady increase but has been in the top 100 for 50 years or more. That's just how I personally decide whether a name is trendy or not.
As for the popular vs. trendy names...for me, trendy names are ones that are currently spiking. Like PP said, Owen was in the 400's forever, and has jumped up to the top 50, so there's a growing trend to name you boy Owen. Benjamin has been in the top 50 forever and is riding pretty steady, so that doesn't scream trendy to me.
John is pretty non-negotiable as a middle name. It was my late FIL's name. He passed away very unexpectedly two years ago and we would like to honor him.
Re: Name Help
I voted for Benjamin John because I thought the flow was better. Both are solid choices though IMO.
