pressure down there

Anyone else feeling some pressure way down there at 14 weeks-ish??? This is #3 for me and I don't remember this feeling with the first two. Its really hard to describe. I have to pee often but not a lot comes out. Walking, bouncing... like walking down the stairs makes me really feel like I need to pee. If I open my legs wide, like stepping out the the car I feel even more pressure in the crotch region. I have started getting some lower back pain. no bleeding or spotting. Just pressure and sometimes its discomfort, but nothing terrible. Does not feel like labor. Will see the DR next thurs, but wonder if anyone else has had similar feelings...

Re: pressure down there

  • Same thing as @lgem4. Pressure was an indication of incompetent cervix. I was starting to feel it at 13 weeks and it has been greatly reduced since my cerclage. As a FTM with DS, it never dawned on me that it might be unusual. Now, I wish I had checked with my doctor earlier--it might have saved me from weeks of bed rest, progesterone, and an early delivery.

That at being said, pressure is a common symptom the farther along you are. But it won't hurt to call your doctor and check, especially since it's still relatively early in pregnancy and baby isn't that big yet.

  • This is my 3rd also and I felt a pressure & some lower back pain around 8/9 weeks with no bleeding. My doc initially said '3rd baby, everything is lower' & also did a cervix check to make sure everything was ok. It was and, in my case, turned out to be a UTI. I did not have any pain peeing - was just going even more than pregnant norm! I had an antibiotic prescribed and it all went away.

Hope everything checks out for you - keep us posted!
  • Now I'm getting worried. I've been having pressure but brushed it off as normal pregnancy symptoms. I don't have it all the time, just at random times and usually at night when I'm sleeping. I've also been having lower back aches, which I've attributed to my uterus growing. Is this something I need to worry about or is the incompetent cervix pain and pressure you're all talking about more intense and obvious?

I tend to overreact and worry when I shouldn't so I hope I'm just being a hypochondriac after reading this thread...
  • Ive had a bit more pressure of and on with this one earlier than I remember it. But I've had my cervix checked and its fine (and I had to be induced with my last two so I'm usually locked up tight).

The lower back aches, twinges, round ligament pains and even mild cramps (or BH) are normal and I think you just feel them earlier with subsequent pregnancies.

  • @lgem4 thank you for answering my question. What I'm experiencing isn't severe or constant, just at random times and usually at night. I will bring it up with my doctor. I tend to overworry about everything, and it's worse now that I'm pregnant. I'm so sorry about your last pregnancy.
  • It can be normal just mention it to your dr. I actually pressure with my 3rd and many times it was sore to me. I was advised to use a heating pad as needed.
  • Yes, mine feels like my hips and pelvis are expanding and it's painful. Not so much a pressure feeling, but pain. This is also my 3rd baby.

  • Definitely check with your doctor. It could be a UTI which is common and treatable with antibiotics.
  • Pressure *can* be a sign of an incompetent cervix.  However,  my best guess (as a nurse who works with prenatal patients) is that you either have a UTI or this is just a normal pregnancy symptom caused by increased blood flow/blood volume to your pelvic area, kidneys, and increased weight and pressure of your uterus as things expand.  One thing we are taught in graduate nursing school is that common things are just that - common. A UTI or increased blood flow to your pelvic and vaginal areas and kidneys would be more common than an incompetent cervix.  Also, needing to urinate frequently and increased urinary urgency sound more like a UTI and have nothing to do with your cervix.

Of course, call your doctor today regardless - I wouldn't wait until Thurs.  If it is a UTI, you need antibiotics to treat it. Your doctor can also assess your cervix to make sure you can rule out an incompetent cervix.  I definitely wouldn't hit the panic button re: incompetent cervix just yet! It would be on my list to explain the symptoms you've described, but it would definitely be lower down on that list.
  • This sounds like you have a uti to me but as previous ladies said I would call your doctor. I feel pressure and this is my third but I do have incompetent cervix and also a cerclage. I have pressure with my cerclage but my length is good. The urge to pee to me sounds like uti. Sometimes if you have incompetent cervix there are no warning signs. Good luck with everything hopfully it is nothing and normal.
