Craving nothing but Junk!

So I never had any sickness while pregnant with my DS.  I am 8 weeks now and while I haven't thrown up I do feel queasy constantly and NOTHING seems good to eat.  Well not nothing, all I want is greasy junk like burgers and fries  :s.  I'm usually a health conscious person and this is making me feel so guilty.  After I eat it I don't feel uneasy anymore and I can function normally for a bit, who would of thought fast food would make me feel good?!  Anyone else have similar experiences?  I'm hopping this is just a first tri thing and I can go back to eating normally soon.

  • I'm a vegetarian so I don't crave burgers :) but I do crave junk food containing anything with cheese! Pizza, mac & cheese, grilled cheese, cheese enchiladas...heck, I've even eaten just melted cheese! Lol. I have zero energy and just eat crap. It feels gross but all of my normal foods are so unappealing to me. I usually eat a mostly plant based diet and have to make myself eat a piece of fruit or something semi-healthy these days. I hope to feel more normal in March!

  • It's good to hear I'm not the only one!  I'm not a vegetarian but I very rarely ate red meat, and now I feel like It's all I can think about :(.  I really wanted to be healthy this pregnancy, hopefully I'm better by March too.  Best of luck and enjoy your cheese!  :p
  • I feel the same way. My diet before pregnancy was also healthy: super lean meats, whole grains and tons of vegetables. Now all I want is garbage. I ate a giant meatball sub for lunch today and I'm making velveeta Mac and cheese for dinner. I also heard a tip about jolly ranchers for morning sickness, so I have been sucking on those constantly and im worried I'm consuming waaaay too much sugar.
  • Yes - I've been eating a ton of pizza.. like grabbing a slice almost daily. I'm so ashamed :(

  • Thanks, @kcl219! Good luck you too! If it is any comfort to anyone, I saw my doctor on Monday and he said the 1st trimester is really all about surviving, lol. He said he isn't too worried about what I am eating right now (because I admitted to how unhealthy I have been compared to normal). So knowing that my doctor isn't worried helped me not worry too much now. I am just on the look-out for moments when I WANT to eat healthy and make smarter choices (and then will do it).

  • I'm so with you guys. With DD I craved green smoothies and all the good stuff. This time around I want burgers and donuts. ALL the donuts!
  • Right there with you. I have actually improved my diet tons since finding out I'm preggers. but yes, definitely craving stuff that's not so good for me. My midwife said go for it, it's all about moderation. If I'm craving a double cheeseburger, I get one! I just skip the fries and pop. I'm finding it's actually helping me stick to my nutritious choices more, because I don't deprive myself.

  • I'm craving junk all day err day too :(
  • I've craved burgers and fries every day during week 6 and 7 and gagged when trying to eat veggies or anything healthy.  It was so bad that I've forced myself to eat a salad and then went thru a drive thru for french fries to eat with my salad.  Luckily, I'm finally craving a few more healthier options for week 8.  I'm craving all the fruit now!!! Last week I told my Doc I was concerned that I was only eating fatty, high carb meals and she told me to eat what I could for now.
  • @KarenBeth714 PIZZA. You're not the only one, trust me. All day everyday I crave it. Today I had DH pick up a large cheese pizza for me to keep in the fridge so I would be able to have 1-2 slices a day for the next few days. I feel so gross for wanting it all the time, but I can't help it! I'm force feeding myself veggies on the side, but the pizza just keeps calling to me!

@blondie080300 what your doc said is actually super encouraging, to me at least! I read all of those articles about how you shouldn't really increase your caloric intake in the first trimester and you should eat super healthy for the baby's optimal development, and all I can think now every time I go to grab a slice of pizza or another piece of toast or a super carb-y dish is "crap." Cuz there's no way I'm not increasing my calories, especially with the sudden hunger that hits me every two hours.

Def agree with @yellowrose314 about it all being in moderation. If it's something your body is really craving then go for it...!

At the moment I can't stomach most of the foods I would normal eat which would be red meats, pasta and rice so have had no choice but go for (what I think are) healthy choices.

For breakast most occasions would be:- cereal/and or selection of fruit with some yogurt or croissant with cheese slices. In earlier weeks it was beans on toast, cheese toastie, toast with jam (bread overload)
To try and lessen my guilt, just made it a conscious choice to opt for brown bread or bread with seed so I input a healthier option.

For lunch:- would really depend how I felt from day to day, if I've managed a big breakfast then would probably snack but yesterday had 2 cheese and onion rolls, wedges and salad then snacked on some popcorn

Dinner:- this is where I struggle... It really depends on what I fancy so I usually end up cooking something totally different to my husband that I would eat.

Last Sun there was slow cooked stew chicken with rice for dinner which I suddenly grew nauseous thinking about even trying. I ended up eating 2 slices of pepperoni pizza and 2 slices of BBQ Texan pizza with wedges and wings (after a couple of the wings I went off them)

Listen to your bodies ladies but let's practise some self-control along the way...

Now I find myself having aversions to most 'red meats' so will be opting for fish and seafood alternatives this week (tuna and salmon)
  • You and me both, @blondie080300 - I think we've discussed our veggie-ism already.  Doesn't mean I'm healthy just because I don't eat meat... I'm still all about pizza, fries, chips and cake. I usually do better than I have been, but hell - cravings are fun!

I do pack a semi-healthy lunch every day (ignore my easy mac today.. I was running behind this morning), and force myself to eat that before giving into cravings.. then if I'm still hungry I hit up the cafeteria for some chips/candy!

  • So glad to hear I'm not the only one! I feel so sick all day long. I can't eat anything healthy and nothing sounds good besides junk food. This better be a first trimester thing. Once I feel better I'm going to have to start walking everyday and eating better!

Oh my gosh I'm so glad I'm not the only one! I had planned to start a Whole 30 in January and decided I still would even when we found out about the baby. I lasted only 2 weeks before I gave in to my cravings for all the cheese and ice cream! On Monday I was craving the chips and cheese from Taco Bell. I didn't get any because I was trying to have some self control and be healthy, but Wednesday night they were still all I could think about so I gave in. Let's hope we can all eat our normal stuff again come 2nd tri!

Also - reading through this thread made me crave all the things! Hello cheese and Chinese food and little s'more bites! Yikes!

  • All these replies are making me hungry!!!! Lol, and now I want chocolate  :D. And of course I'm snowed in today...  :'(
  • I only want sweet things right now - apples, cereal, watermelon, ice cream, etc. I've been eating a lot of peppermints or ginger candy to hold off the vomiting, lol. I am on a strict diet because of IC, so as much as I'd LOVE chocolate, I can't have it. :( The only non-sweet thing I'm craving is salt-and-vinegar chips.

  • I feel sick all morning and early afternoon. Once i finally feel like eating, i want to eat everything.
I just need to not buy any junk food at the grocery store. If I have a craving I'm not going to run out to buy whatever it is. Although if I keep craving something I'll eventually have to give in.
I saw the hostess cupcakes I've been craving while I was grocery shopping. I stared at them for way too long before walking away. Lol
