Weekly Menu/Food Check-In (Feb. 15)

What's your menu this week?

What's new? New Challenges? New Recipes?

Have you had to give up anything due to aversions?

Re: Weekly Menu/Food Check-In (Feb. 15)

  • What's your menu this week? no menu because I'm sick. I see pasta and take-out in my future.

What's new? New Challenges? New Recipes?  My biggest challenge is overcoming my complete lack of appetite. I didn't have much of one as soon as I got KU, but now that I have the flu, it's completely disappeared.

Have you had to give up anything due to aversions? I've pretty much given up real food at this point. I eat anything that sounds remotely good at the time. I try to make "good" choices, but in all honesty, it's been a lot of cookies and cheeze-its. I managed to eat a salad yesterday though! Hopefully 2nd Tri will be better.

  • What's your menu this week? I told DH he needs to plan his own meals bc I can't tolerate to eat most things (including any meat at the moment), and what I think I would want for dinner I can't stomach by the time it's dinner time.

What's new? New Challenges? New Recipes? Day 4 of MS. Feel nauseous 20 minutes after I eat until I eat again. And most things I can't stomach. It is a real challenge finding something I can eat. So far it's been hard boiled eggs and cucumbers with ranch dressing, but it really depends on the moment.

Have you had to give up anything due to aversions? Almost everything. I can't even look at meat right now and most things make me queasy, but it changes by the second. Ugh.

  • Nothing on the menu. I'm usually a huge meal planner and very organized grocery shopper. I also do a lot of meal prep and freezer cooking but that has all gone out the window because what sounds good today may sound gross tomorrow.

Morning sickness hits in the afternoon and evenings. I'm not puking but I feel nauseated and dizzy, I would guess like sea sickness but, I've never been far enough at sea to experience that so I'm just guessing.

My main aversions are bread and pasta, two things I normally love and I think it is a texture thing. Wraps and salads are OK. Spicy is wonderful. Actually, the less bland the better, which is bizarre.  The one food that really tastes the best are toaster strudels. Yup. The freezer breakfast kind. I could eat them for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. But, outside of that it's slim pickins.
  • What's your menu this week? Ginger soy chicken with stir fry for a few nights, probably some kind of pasta in the middle of the week, and I'm making tahcheen on Friday - it's my favorite and it's got enough yogurt to soothe my acid-sensitive stomach.

What's new? New Challenges? New Recipes? Being more consistent with drinking water. My bottle is leaking, so I need to get a new one to take to work with me. I guess my challenge is getting enough healthy food for lunches during the week - I can't eat at my desk so smaller meals is an inconvenience because I have to get my food and go to a whole other floor to use a staff room to eat.

Have you had to give up anything due to aversions? So far no...

  • What's your menu this week? Chicken stroganoff this week. It's a great crockpot meal that seems pretty appealing right now (hopefully it will later too... )

What's new? New Challenges? New Recipes? Challenges are just mostly that I think I want something, only to eat and find out I don’t. We had nachos for dinner last night, which I usually love, but it tasted all wrong. Same with lunch today, I ordered a delivery gyro from a place I love, but that tasted all wrong, too. Nothing new yet to try except maybe getting on the salad train Blerg…

Have you had to give up anything due to aversions? Not giving anything up, per se. Really just hoping my old tastes come back and I can start to enjoy the stuff I know I like again...

  • @LGW2015 I am so with you.  The only time I feel good is while I'm eating and for maybe 15-20 mins after I eat.  I think I might just have to start grazing for awhile.

What's your menu this week? Morning sickness just reared it's ugly head a few days ago, so I think I might have to tweak our planned meals.  I'm probably going to lean more towards carbs since meat is not appealing.  I'm thinking a pancake night, mashed potatoes w/ gravy and maaaybe a little rotisserie chicken mixed in if I can stomach it, cheese tortellini, and probably a soup night.  The picture of health over here.

What's new? New challenges? New recipes? Morning sickness of course, but also figuring out what I should eat that won't make me regret it later.  I'm finding sugar, while appealing at the time, doesn't go over well later.

Have you had to give up anything due to aversions? Salads. :(  It's usually my lunch staple, but it's not happening.  They say protein helps morning sickness, but I'm going to have to be more creative because most meat is no bueno.  Oddly a hamburger on a sesame seed bun usually does sound good.  But not beef in any other form.

  • What's your menu this week? Bolognese with Tagliatelle, Chicken Curry, Smoked Sausage and Red Rice, Baked Spaghetti Squash Lasagna and homemade Minestrone Soup

Whats new? New challenges? New Recipes? First crack at spaghetti squash, it came in my weekly co-op basket a few weeks back and need to make it. I also am struggling to eat enough and drink enough water, because my appetite is not revved up like usual.

Have you had to give up anything due to aversions? Nothing yet specifically. I am eating a lot of hard boiled eggs and bagels with cream cheese because they sound good. We will see how much of my planned menu actually happens

What's your menu this week? Eating up some stuff in the pantry and freezer. Pork chops are definitely doing to make an appearance, maybe meatloaf. We had potato hash tonight.

What's new? New Challenges? New Recipes?  I am still challenging myself to use everything I get from Costco! Its hard not to go overboard.

Have you had to give up anything due to aversions? Still much too early. Knock on wood that this won't be a problem! Morning sickness is for the birds.

What's your menu this week? No menu yet. I really need to do that. I do have plans to make a bunch of blueberry waffles to put in the freezer.

What's new? New Challenges? New Recipes? I made a healthier "egg mcmuffin" that was ridiculously good and now it's all I want. Over easy egg, prosciutto, and avocado.

Have you had to give up anything due to aversions? Not yet, but I ate kolaches a couple mornings ago and we had burritos tonight in anticipation of me not being able to eat them for the next 36+ weeks.

    chicken pot pie
    spaghetti broccoli and chicken
    tacos

What's new? New Challenges? New Recipes?
Not this week. Trying to eat more fruit. Constipation is no joke

Have you had to give up anything due to aversions?
F and I had hibachi the other day. I nearly threw up when they were cleaning the grill because of the smell. Otherwise nothing yet.

  • What's your menu this week?
@klv - we had hibachi last night, and I gobbled it up! Sorry you couldn't tolerate! Tonight I made pan seared chicken, mashed potatoes, and maple glazed carrots. Tomorrow we are having a box from Plated delivered. I think the 3 meals I selected were fish tacos, pasta with sausage and brown butter sauce, and sourdough paninis. Has anyone else every tried Plated (or Blue Apron or Hello Fresh)? I've always been super happy with the food!

What's new? New Challenges? New Recipes?
    All new recipes this week!

Have you had to give up anything due to aversions?
Nope. I feel kind of guilty saying...I have zero nausea or food aversions. In fact, I have to watch it or else I eat too much. I'm logging on myfitnesspal. I'm so sorry to all you ladies struggling with nausea (and it might be me at some point, but my mom and sister never had it either??)

  • What's your menu this week? I had animal fries and a cheeseburger animal style tonight. That was my jam during my last pregnancy (after my meat aversion went away), and I have a feeling it will be a big hit this round as well. Although now I said that, i'm probably jinxing myself.

What's new? New Challenges? New Recipes?  Nada. Challenges will be eating healthy -- specifically getting the right share of fruits and veggies.

Have you had to give up anything due to aversions? Not yet. Really hoping I don't get any this time around. Praying I can keep eating cheeseburgers like a champ.

Challenges: I'm too tired to want to cook come 5pm. I've also got a few new items on the menu this week.

  • @2015dee  I've looked into those services, but haven't pulled the trigger yet. The price kinda throws me off, but I know that it's really not that bad in the long run.
  • What's your menu this week? I meal plan for two weeks at a time so starting a new menu on Thursday. What's left these next few days are 1) no bean turkey and sweet potato chili 2) Ribeye steaks 3) pork chops in a creamy dijon sauce.

What's new? New Challenges? New Recipes? I'm making it my business to get back onto strict paleo. These past two weeks have been bad. Very bad.

Have you had to give up anything due to aversions? Thankfully, no aversions and no sickness. With DD garlic and teriyaki sauce made me a bit queasy but that's it. Hoping that this pregnancy is similar.

  • What's your menu this week? Tonight DH is in charge of dinner because it is my birthday! Rest of the week is soup, black bean enchiladas, and I can’t remember because I misplaced my menu.

What's new? New Challenges? New Recipes? Cooking healthy meals sans chicken is a challenge! I’m not much of a meat eater to begin with but was able to get my protein in via chicken. Not anymore! Coming up with vegetarian or red meat meals that DH will actually eat was a challenge when I was meal planning yesterday. Also, grocery shopping was NOT GOOD. Being in the store with all the smells made me queasy.

Have you had to give up anything due to aversions? Chicken. Ew ew ew.

  • @smmatt08 - HBD!!!

@br0co1ii - You might check Groupon and see if there are any coupons right now for first time customers. I know Blue Apron had one recently.

Does anyone have any suggestions on brown bag lunches? I hate spending a ton of time preparing lunch to bring to work. Today I brought an Amy's organic frozen burrito (which I'm not sure how healthy those are), carrots/hummus, and strawberries. What ideas do you all have for quick, easy, and healthy lunches for work?

  • @2015dee. My brown bag lunches generally consist of a random assortment of grab-and-go snacks. String cheese, granola bar, banana, yogurt, granola for the yogurt,  I pack leftovers into little containers, rice, soup... anything easy. Lately I try for a wide variety because I'm rarely in the mood for any of what I bring. I'm pretty excited about my soup today though.
  • @2015dee Thank you! I'm not much help right now in the lunch realm because I have an aversion to food in general. Lunch today consists of 2 Eggo waffles. It is the only thing that sounds ok to choke down. Generally I would do leftovers from dinners or the night before bake a chicken breast along with roasted vegetables. I also tend to do baked oatmeal that lasts all week, more breakfast than lunch but filling.
  • What's your menu this week?

Pretty much the same as last week. Spinach salads for lunch with broccoli, ground turkey, and sweet potatoes. Dinner this week will be tomato soup and a cheese quesadilla using a flat out wrap and 1/2 ounce of cheese.

What's new? New Challenges? New Recipes?

Just craving tomato soup like crazy! Having a hard time getting a lot of protein in so I'm using a protein powder too.

Have you had to give up anything due to aversions?

    nothing as of yet!
  • @fitlady21- tomato soup sounds realllly good! What kind of tomato soup are you  using?
