Going off the prometrium...anxiety!!

Hi ladies,

I need some comfort. I'm 9 weeks and I had my ultrasound and my OB appointment and everything is going great! So, he is taking me off the prometrium as the pregnancy takes over at this point. I'm so nervous. This pregnancy is from IUI. I was not on the prometrium during my pregnancy with my daughter. I'm just so scared to go off. Anyone go off with no problems at this point??

    I went off Endometrin, PIO, Estradiol and Minivelle patches a week ago (10 weeks) and everything was fine!

    I was afraid of spotting or complications, but everything went just fine.  No issues at all!

    Good luck!  I know it's scary, but you and your little one should be just fine. :smile:

    I was super nervous, too!  I had a previous loss, too, which made me more nervous, but everything's been smooth sailing.

    Chances are that it was just precautionary anyway since you did IUI (we did IVF), so your body should be able to take over just fine.

    I was told a little spotting 2-4 days after stopping is normal, but not necessarily a given (it didn't end up happening).  So don't panic if you have a little bit.  It's just withdrawal from the higher levels of hormones if it happens.

    I'm eleven weeks yesterday and still on it. I mc'd in August and was put on as a precaution. But I don't think my levels were ever checked. I have enough pills to last until 16 weeks 3 days. I don't go back to the Dr until 13 weeks 2 days. I was thinking of asking him then if I need to stay on it but am nervous to go off of it as well. I didn't think the placenta took over progesterone production until 12 weeks.

    My OB told me studies show that it's safe to go off at 8 weeks if you have seen a strong heartbeat. But if it made me feel better I could stay on until 10 weeks. He and my fertility doc both said 10 weeks it's 100% safe because the placenta is taking over. Still makes me so nervous!!

    Good to know. I will ask my doc about it at my next appt.
