Sound/white noise machine

For those who use a sound or white noise machine, what kind do you have and do you like it? Right now we've been using an app on our phone since DS is still in our room but we want to start transitioning him to his crib so he will need one for his room.

Re: Sound/white noise machine

  • We use the LectroFan and love it! It's small, portable, and easy to use with lots of different white noise sounds and fan sounds.

  • We have a graco sound machine and I only marginally like it. I wish it could be louder.
  • We have a sleep easy sound machine in our room.  We will be getting another one for DSs room when he starts sleeping in there. $25 on Amazon.
  • We just use a box fan in the highest setting. We have in each kid's room.

But when we travel, we use the myBaby SoundSpa. It's small and portable.

So right now we're just using a youtube video. I kept my old phone when i moved from canada but couldn't hook it up to a plan here in the US. So I just held onto it and when Olive moves into her nursery, I'll hook it up to my portable speakers in there. We like these two:
    https://youtu.be/iim2OkiEJLg
    https://youtu.be/OEvmogdF0Vk

The second one, the womb sounds one, is my favourite. It puts me to sleep. They both do but womb sounds was instantly soothing whereas white (or "pink") noise, i had to get used to. We have an entertainment system in our bedroom (TV, speakers) and we even pulled the womb sounds up on the tv and ran it through the sound system. We all were mesmerized by it. And all had a very lovely nap. The only downside is that it's only 1.5 hours long.

We also have the MyBaby by Homedics SoundSpa. It is super cheap and the only reason we chose it is because Olive's first night outside the womb, she had a total meltdown (wouldn't you?) and the nurses finally brought this for her and set it to "heartbeat". And it worked. And, being the baby dummies, we didn't want to fix what wasn't broken and bought our own. You can get them at Target for about $25 bucks. But honestly, these two youtube vids work just as well and don't cost anything.

Oh we have the owl too! But we're not letting her use it until she moves out. If she gets used to it, we have no ace in the hole for getting her to like the nursery. This is sort of her housewarming gift when she moves in in a few months.
  • Awesome. Thanks for all your suggestions! I'll check them out!
  • We use one from brookstone. With my first we used an app then graduated to the machine and at 3 she still uses it. So we have one for our room as well. It's got like 12 settings and we just use the white noise one. We love it because all of the other machines we tried didn't get as loud as this one, our daughter and now this little one require it to sound like a freight train lol. I'm used to it now and it helps me sleep too. A little pricey but if it's volume you need check it out.
  • @Cejiml what is it called exactly? That's my main complaint is that they don't get loud enough. We have two fans going two sound machines and her white noise on her RNP and I am not satisfied hah. I want one thing that drowns out a lot of noise.

We have that exact sound machine for both our boys! It is on the heartbeat setting in Leo's room and our oldest loves the rain one. I love the cute projections for the ceiling too! Derek asks to see the stars every night.

We also have this. We have used it  for my 2 year old since he was born and got another one for the baby. It also serves as a great night light if you take the discs out.

  • On an old post, someone had mentioned something called a Babyshusher.  I found it on Amazon but baby boy doesn't even calm or sleep to the white noise apps on our phones, so I couldn't get myself to buy it...

I just looked on their website and it didn't have it online. They always have it in store though. You could call your local one. It gets super loud but it's what my kids need so it's worth it to me.
  • @Cejiml I don't live close to a brookestone unfortunately. I'm considering using an old iPhone hooked up to wifi to play the video that's 10 hours. I just layed my phone in the RNP with her this morning and played that pretty loud and she slept 3 more hours. That never happens. I bought one on iTunes but it goes off after 10'mins and while it is on replay it gets quiet before it restarts and scares the sh@t out of you haha.
  • Has anyone used the tranquil turtle before??  Just learned about this recently and want to give it a try.

That's actually a great idea! Didn't even think to use it, I have an old iPhone just laying around. I may just use that and see how it will work out before I buy a sound machine.
  • We use an app too while rocking or walking around with him. And super loud
  • https://amzn.com/B006SFUEF2 <This sound machine from Amazon was bought off my registry and I absolutely LOVE it! The sound quality is about as good as you can ask for from a machine like this, but the projector is awesome. We don't need a nightlight in the room because this gives enough light to do diaper changes without being too bright. We use the ocean setting.
