Ultrasound seems so far away

My 1st ultrasound is scheduled for March 17. That's a whole month away.  I understand why my dr wants to wait until 10 weeks, but it just seems like so far away. I keep thinking what if something goes wrong in the next 5 weeks. Then I think about how I'd hate to have an US done too early and not see anything major. Just I absolutely hate the waiting game. I know some of you ladies gotta be on board withe me.

Re: Ultrasound seems so far away

  • My first u/s won't be until I'm 12 weeks so I feel your pain

  • It's actually pretty normal to wait til 20 weeks for an ultrasound, and in a healthy pregnancy, that could be the only one! I know you want to see the babe, but be thankful you don't need it!
  • Whether a short or long wait, waiting is NEVER fun.  I only need to get to Friday for my next milestone (and hopefully some reassurance so I can breathe a tiny bit easier) and it feels like it's years away!

  • I still have a week and 4 days to my first u/s (I'll be 8w4d). It's been killing me to wait. I couldn't imagine waiting another week and 3 days! But I'm AMA and it took us 3 years to conceive, otherwise I don't think they would have done one until 12 weeks. We are very eager to hear a heartbeat (or heartbeats!).

  • Mine is March 11. They do it at 8-10 weeks and it will end up being about 9 weeks for me. I could have had an earlier one if I didn't lie about my last period to get a more accurate date, but I didn't. I had a missed miscarriage (blighted ovum) my last pregnancy and found out at the intake ultrasound, so I'm doubly nervous. BUT there isn't really anything that can be done. I mean, knowing is amazing, and who wouldn't want to see their little baby for certain? Especially if you're not feeling symptoms yet. However, it doesn't change anything. It sucks to find out there is no baby at 7 weeks or 9 weeks or 5 weeks. They can't do anything. If you do have cramps and bleeding earlier, they may do an earlier ultrasound to check you out, so you always have that to fall back on. Otherwise you just have to assume everything is okay until proven not okay. Because your chances of being fine are so much higher than not! Check out the thread on "chances of NOT having a miscarriage" and count down your days if you have to. And we'll all look forward to seeing your post in the ultrasound thread after the 17th.

Mine is a week from Friday. I know it seems like an age, but the bigger baby gets the more there is to see on the ultrasound. That's a positive way to spin it!

  • @PrimRoseMama that's exactly how I am trying to look at it. I still have 3 weeks and 1 day, but I looked up 10 week US's on YouTube and baby actually looks like a little baby  :D so Even though the wait is driving me crazy, I am excited to get a more detailed view of my little love.

  • Yesterday morning after getting off work, I had horrible horrible cramps and filled half a panty liner with bleeding. It scared the living crap outta me. So my mom anf FI went to the er with me. They did both an external and internal ultrasound. Of course, at 5-5 only the sac was visible. My blook hcg levels were normal. I was told it's not normal but common for some women to have excess spotting. Just seeing the sac and knowing my levels were normal gave me so much relief.
  • I'm sorry you had that scare yesterday, but very happy for you that things appear to be healthy. I feel you on the wait for US, mine isn't until 10 weeks and it feels like it's still ages away! Each week that goes by makes me feel a little bit better though, hopefully by 10 I'll be feeling pretty confident and the US will support that. I like @PrimRoseMama's positive spin on it too... longer wait means more to see!
  • @PrimRoseMama is right!  For my son I saw him at 6 was, and it was exciting, but just a blob.  At 8 weeks my OB did an unexpected ultrasound because she knew I was worried bc that was the point where I had lost my last pregnancy.  At 8 weeks he was jumping around and waving his little arms around!  Such a huge difference in just 2 weeks!
  • I can totally relate!  I scheduled my first appointment soon after I found out, during my third week.  They set up the appointment and u/s for March 1st when I'll be almost 9 weeks.  What a looooong time to wait!  I can definitely say that the first couple of weeks time went super slow and now it's sped up a little bit.  I hope these next two weeks just fly by!  All I can say is that it helps to just take it day by day and try not to look ahead at how long you have to wait.  I know that it is typical for my doctor to schedule first appointments at 8-10 weeks, and there must be a very good reason for that.  I think  even though it would've been a bit of a relief to have an earlier u/s, it will be nice that baby will be more visible by the time I go in.

  • I was originally set up on March 15th at 11 weeks. But because of some spotting and cramping they moved it up to Feb 22nd. I'm grateful to see the baby but wish I wouldn't have had the scare to get it moved up.
  • The other end of the spectrum is kind of crappy, too. My first appointment is scheduled for next Friday- I'll be 5w4d, so we probably won't be able to see or hear the heartbeat yet. I wish my appointment was a little further out so we'd have the assurance knowing if there's a heartbeat or not.

  • I was originally supposed to have my ultrasound this past Friday but they called me a day before to re-schedule. I'm now set to go next Monday, I will be 8w2d by then.
