Baby baptism, help!!!

My baby is 15 weeks and getting baptized tomorrow! I've always been terrified of germs but with her having to start daycare in two weeks (returning to work) I thought I'd be OK. We are having about 50 some people come and I'm having severe anxiety to the point of wanting to cancel. Any thoughts, I want to enjoy this moment but I can't get past the fear of her getting sick.

Any pointers?

  • Babies get sick. It's their thing. You're going to have to let go and hope for the best. I'm not saying to let everyone spit and sneeze on your child, but you can't keep them sheltered forever. Especially going to daycare, your baby's going to get sick, it's a fact that even my doctor was up front about. And guess what? 2 weeks in my daughter came home with pinkeye. She's fine. I was upset at first, but when the doctor acted like it was NBD I got over it.

After 3 months old is usually when doctors stop worrying about babies getting sick. They'll allow you to try to remedy things at home first (Tylenol, etc) before bringing them to the office.

  • If you are worried about too many people trying to hold her, you could try wearing her as much as you can. Then people won't be able to just take her out of your arms. Just use the excuse that she is sleepy and you don't want to take her out and upset her.
  • Just politely ask people to sanitize first - babies get sick, they survive and so do we.
  • You'll be fine. We had her baptism at barely 4 weeks. While we only had a handful of guests, there were about 15 other baby's baptized that day, so the church was PACKED. Bring hand sanitizer and make people wash hands! I told any family that was sick to stay home, I told them I'd FaceTime with them hahahah
  • Thank you ladies! I know daycare will be the real issue, I jus t hope people use sense to not come of they aren't feeling well. I also think I'm going to refuse and offers on holding her.
  • Drink wine and calm down. You could invite 5 people and still the risk of LO getting sick. Some people are carriers and won't even know they're sick. It will be fine, and if LO does get sick, well shit happens :) Enjoy the baptism and enjoy celebrating!
