Low progesterone...

Hi everyone! I'm new to the board. My names Ashley. Boyfriend and I have been together 2.5 years. No preventing anything. I recently had aN early mc on January 3. I was around 7 weeks, before that I had a another early mc in September. My last levels after my mc we're 14 on the 11th. I took a frer on Feb 4. I got a light positive and went ahead and made appointment to get labs. I took two more tests two days apart slightly darker, then went to my appointment earlier today. I am indeed pregnant again, Hcg was 476 and progesterone was at 12. They believe the reasons for my last two losses we're due to low progesterone. They have me starting on supplements today and hopefully this little one will stick, I really just wanted to know if anyone else has low progesterone? Thanks all!

Re: Low progesterone...

  • I haven't personally dealt with low progesterone, but I know many women who do progesterone suppositories/supplements and go on to have successful pregnancies. It sounds like your dr is being proactive. Good luck! And fingers crossed progesterone does the trick.

  • Thanks! I'm just really nervous, seeing as they believe low progesterone was the cause for my last two losses.
  • I don't have low progesterone, but my doctor has me on supplements given my complicated history....I just take 400mg of prometrium orally at night. It makes me super sleepy. Good luck to you! Congrats!

  • I don't have low progesterone, but my mom did, because of a preexisting condition. I know someone else's outcome has no bearing on yours, but when low progesterone is a cause, not a symptom, it is very treatable with supplementation.

  • I lost 2 pregnancies last year and I just knew it had to do with my progesterone. I usually don't make it past 6 weeks. This time around, we checked my progesterone right away and I was at a 9. I'm on the suppositories. I'm now at 6w2d. I have my first ultrasound on friday. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this one works out.
  • I had low progesterone with my 2nd and took progesterone for the first 12 weeks. I had two losses over the summer and after meeting with my high risk ob he told me from now on I have to do the progesterone suppositories during ovulation unth I get a a bfn or a bfp and if positive then keep taking it. So that's what I have been doing.
  • I was on it with my first and I am on it again (with my third now). Oral supplements, three times a day, 100mg each.   Hope your numbers go up.  It doesn't interfere with my everyday. Good luck!

  • I don't have another appointment until the 22nd which I find odd seeing as they o ly tested my numbers once. Does anyone think I should call and see if I can go into get labs done maybe Thursday or Friday? I want to know if they have gone up... I'm debating on it since they obviously don't seem too worried about it, should I be? Hmm.
  • Mine is low and was also low with my first pregnancy. My first I had progesterone suppositories and with this one we are doing the injections. I had my first yesterday and it was not awful. I'm sore today but was told that's to be expected. She also said i would probably bruise and get welts, but none yet. Praying this little babe sticks as well! Our first was conceived using clomid, and this baby was a surprise!
  • Thanks gherkins! My doctor has me on the suppositories. I've been on them a fee days, not fond of the mess, but as long as they work. I think not having a period between my last mc and this pg is making me more nervous. I called and called the last two days trying to get in for labs, to no avail. I guess I'll just be waiting until my history appointment on the 22nd.
  • Gah the wait is so long! We don't go until the 25th. The progesterone should help. Last pregnancy I had heavy bleeding, but we didn't lose Baby, and the progesterone kept the bleeding at bay. It was so scary! I was on high alert my whole rest of my pregnancy!
  • @gherkins I have been doing PIO injections for about a month now.  Try these tips if you're not already doing these to help.   Ice the area that will get the injection for a good 10-15 minutes until it's numb.  Heat the oil up a bit to get closer to body temperature. This will help the oil be a little thinner when injected.   Also massage the area of the injection afterwards for a few seconds.  Then,  see which works best for you... I put a heating pad on my injection  for 15-30 minutes.   Other people say it helps to move the area by walking or dancing.

I have at least six more weeks of the injections.  Good luck!
  • thanks for the tips! we are doing twice a week, and Mondays I have Zumba, so that'll help me work it out once a week. I'll have to get a heating pad for Thursday's injection!
