im on the compounded oral version. so many of my friends have had to be put on it to make up for what the baby is lacking in progesterone.
since progesterone plays a major role in developing the placenta and keeping the uterine lining intact I'm so thankful I'm on it.
If your body had an excessive amount then it wouldn't be good to take prometri. But since our body is using most of it to make the baby I was told that there's no excess amount to have any side effects to the baby.
my side effects after taking each night have Been extremely nausea but I'll take the nausea if the progesterone is doing its job and helping
I am taking the oral version of Prometrium. In September I started bleeding at 7wk 6d and went to the OB the following day. We saw the heartbeat but doc put me on Prometrium at that point. A week later we loss the baby. OB days it was too early to determine cause and it was my first pregnancy. I found out I was pregnant again in Jan. At 3wk 2d and I immediately called the OB. He put me back on it and I will continue to take it until end of 1st trimester. It's mostly preventive at this point. It helps build the lining in the uterus and placenta. If you have too little naturally, it could be problematic. I was taking mine in the AM with breakfast but started noticing I would get really lathargic about an hour later but now I take it with dinner and I don't seem to have issues. Hope this helps!!
I take prometrium vaginally 3x daily and will continue to do so until end of 1st trimester. Best advice- wear a panty liner! There is a lot of discharge that comes with pregnancy alone but adding vaginal prometrium takes it to a whole new level. I occasionally get hot flashes from it but overall am fairly symptom free.
I started taking it after my first miscarriage and have taken it every pregnancy since then. My new OB was able to monitor my hormone levels by me having bloodwork done every other day (after my last miscarriage in Sept 2015) and said that my levels looked good. She didn't think I needed to take the progesterone but was okay with me taking it during the first trimester as a precaution. I just take it orally at night since it can cause nausea.
