I'm 27weeks and have severe cramping and pressure in my lower abdomen that comes every few minutes and lasts a min or 2. This's been going on for two days now, the pain is so severe I can't sleep at night. When the pain comes I feel like I need to have a bowel movement or pee but I really don't need to. I did go to the hospital and they did the ffn test which came back negative and I don't have a uti, neither am I bleeding or leaking. They said it was round ligament pain but I don't know. It's so hard to stand up straight or do anything really because my lower abdomen is so very sore. Anyone experienced this?

  • You've been to the hospital, but have you been seen by your OB or midwife? Did they check your cervix? Monitor your contractions? Severe abdominal pain that's keeping you up at night and coming in waves.... I would definitely be calling my OB's office asking to be seen.

  • For me round ligament pain feels like pulling/stabbing and is related to when I move my body. Mine is painful when I sneeze, roll over in bed, twist suddenly, lift something too heavy. And my RLP is usually on the sides of my bump instead of all over my abdomen like contractions.
  • Yeahh I went and saw my ob/gym two days ago and she sent me to the hospital for the test to be done. They also checked my cervix and it was closed "and long" so they sent me home and told me to come back if I have any bleeding or discharge. Is this what Rlp is supposed to feel like? The pain doesn't only come when I turn or move, it comes even when I'm laying still in bed!! Not sure what to do.
  • I had the same problem 2 weeks ago but started at work doing a desk job. Very low pain, varied to constant to on and off. I tried drinking water, stretching, walking, bathrrom and not much changed. It worsened with movement. After 3 hrs and the pain stopping me from walking i went to the doctors. Cervix was good. He pushed down on both my groins at the same time and it was severe pain. He said it was the round ligaments causes the problem and havent relaxed enough. Luckly between him checking and me going home to sleep (i work nights) it resolved. It wasnt like the traditional round ligament pain why i went in to check. Yours sound similar to mine. He told me it could last a while.  The didnt do any other checks other than heartbeat and cervix with me.

Are you fully supported in bed? Pillow(s) under your bump? If your pain is very similar to what @charlotte92425 describes, a chiropractor who specializes in the Webster technique would be able to help loosen up your round ligaments. Once I get to third trimester, my chiropractor always checks my pelvic ligaments to make sure they're functioning well. If they're tight, the pain can be very intense. But the pain coming in waves makes me wary. I'm gonna tell you to listen to your gut; you alone know your body the best. If you have a bad feeling about all of this, I would seek out a second opinion. If it's not labor related, I wonder if you have might have another abdominal ailment going on. Appendicitis was more painful than birth was for me, and that pain typically begins in the lower abdomen. Anyway... listen to your instincts.
  • I have had both RLP and SPD this pregnancy. So while i've been in excruciating pain, its nothing like what you are describing. I too would be going to the OB/Midwife to get checked out additionally cause it seems (atleast to me.) the wave type sensation of coming and going really isnt what i personally would describe any of those pelvic pains to be like.
  • I've had this and I think it is when DD2 is positioned weird. Try getting on all fours and dipping your arms down keeping your butt in the air. More times than not it will make LO move positions. May help with the pressure.

  • Gas? Gas pains can be horrific, and can mimic a lot of other things.

  • If it is gas, the position @doozer1345 mentioned can help with that too. This is slightly embarrassing, but sticking my butt up in the air helps the air in my stomach move along and exit to put it nicely. I call it "floor time" as a warning to my husband. A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do.
  • Thank you for asking this question. This is exactly what I was feeling yesterday and didn't know the cause.
