Too big for carseat???

My son seems to be too big for his car seat! Would it be too soon to get the kind that stays in the car? That's the next step up right? I've loosened this one as much as possible but it's squeezing his shoulders way too much. No room for a finger to fit between straps and shoulder. I know he shouldn't be growing out of it so soon (atleast that's what my mom says) but he's a very tall baby so I'm thinking he's just too tall for the seat.

  •  You can use a convertible seat from birth if you have one with the right weight requirements.   Try checking out the car seats for the Littles group on Facebook. They will give you a good recommendation for your baby that takes into account your budget and your car.

  • Check the manual. On ours I had to move the straps when she was 11pounds and what I mean is under the car seat there were two loops for the straps to hook onto a silver loop. I had to move it to the bigger one as well as move the strap by the crotch that has the button out. It helped make things way more comfy for LO
  • Our LO already reached the max on her straps in the bucket, with the max amount of strap from adjusting. We already had a convertible in our truck, I just installed the one for my car this week. I took it to a car seat tech and learned some great tips, even though I used that seat for DD1. They showed ways to get a tighter fit, to keep straps from twisting, and explained that my 3yo's wool coat is car seat safe(which makes me feel better!). I recommend finding a certified tech to go over whatever seat you choose.

  • Will be switching DD to a convertible this week.  DH already has one in his car.  The weight requirement is only 8lbs.  It's a Britax.

  • We just got our convertible car seat last weekend. I'll be switching DS soon because his head is almost to the top of the seat. My only issue is that it's probably going to take up half my tiny car.

That's my worry too! I have such a small car and I feel I won't be able to see out my rear view mirror lol
  • We are in the same boat- our guy is over 20 lbs. at 22 lbs he's reached the max for the seat requirements. We just bought the maxi (can't remember name) car seat. We haven't set it up yet bc it's not portable like his infant Graco one.
  • Our LO is almost too big height wise, she's 26inches tall and our car seat goes to 30inches. Since babies r us is doing the trade in this month we just got her new car seat today. We decided to get the Graco 4ever, it's a little pricey but it's supposed to be the only car seat they'll ever need and we can keep her rear facing up to 40 lbs since it goes by weight and not height. So far she likes it :) and taking her out isn't a big deal since we usually take her out of her car seat anyway, it's way too heavy for me to carry around plus she likes to look around.
  • We switched our LO almost a month ago into the convertible.
  • I just got los convertible ordered and it should be here in the next week or so. Honestly had I known how much I'd be baby wearing (the only time he goes in anywhere in his car seat is when we get home or go to someone else's house for an extended period of time) I probably would have gotten the convertible car seat to begin with!
