STM's How Long to Recover From Bad Day?

On Sunday we went to my in laws for the Super Bowl. For whatever reason my typically considerate MIL was shouting across the house at her husband to do various things THE ENTIRE TIME. All the lights were on as well. I told everyone I was trying to get the baby to sleep and went into various unoccupied rooms in the house, but her voice carries and would wake my LO up the moment she got to sleep. After my baby only sleeping 20 minutes in a four hour stretch we just left. (She is 14 weeks old and typically has wake periods of about an hour) As soon as we got home LO fell right to sleep and slept for almost 12 hours. Yesterday and so far today she has been very cranky and clingy. She is showing signs of being tired within minutes of waking up from a nap. It seems like as soon as she wakes up she is crying from being overtired. How much longer will this last?

Re: STM's How Long to Recover From Bad Day?

  • It really depends and could also be connected to other things going on with her.  She may be getting a little cold, beginning a growth spurt, or just having a bad day.  Some babies are really good about going with the flow while others have a very hard time adjusting to different environments.  This is just part of learning her personality.
If there's something strange underneath the hood.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  If there's something weird and it don't look good.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  Immediately.  If it's new, painful, and possibly pregnancy related get your ass off the internet and call your doctor.  It's for your health and your child's.

My DD had a day like this yesterday minus the 12 hour stretch of sleep and seems better already today.  She is also in a leap.
  • I've taken her temperature and it was fine. I guess she could be going through a growth spurt. She had a 2 hour nap and has been a little better since. LO really doesn't do well with new environments. She gets overstimulated easily and can't go to sleep. We were at my in laws a couple days prior and my MIL whispered when I was trying to get LO to sleep and she was able to get to sleep fine. I guess I just can't go anywhere ever again lol
  • My LO and two-year old were up until 11:00 the night of the Super Bowl. They were obviously overtired the next day...LO slept all day but my toddler didn't nap at all. It happens. We had company over do the game, and it was our decision to have company over so I just dealt with it.
  • I have found that LO tends to be cranky the day after we have a very busy day and her schedule is interrupted or we have visitors  Usually by the next day she is back to normal. We like to say she's punishing us!
  • I'm a FTM but my LO got overstimulated at Christmas. He was only 8 weeks or so at the time and went 11 hours with only taking a couple of 20 minute naps. He was off for about 48-72 hours after that but then got back to normal.
