Skin issues

I've had acne pretty much since puberty. My dad had horrible cystic acne, and mine wasn't quite so bad growing up but it was still pretty bad. I finally got fed up when I was around 22 and went on Accutane, which really helped, and my skin mostly cleared up except for that time of the month. But since I've been pregnant my skin has totally flipped out, it hasn't been this bad since middle school. It's like a mixture of minor zits, and deeper cysty ones that hurt and just flare up every once and a while. And the hyperpigmentation is out of control. Not to mention my skin is sooo dry, I used to have pretty oily skin... Does anyone have any suggestions? I've tried exfoliating but my skin was just as dry the next day. I'm not a vain person, but I'm 27 and I'm sick of having pizza face...

Re: Skin issues

  • Me! I've always had hyperpigmentation, excema and acne and it's only getting worse now pregnant:(

For excema, my doctor said the following "Have you tried a mild soap and moisturizer immediately after bathing? The moisturizer should contain the ingredient ceremide. You can also apply a steriod oint such as hydrocortisone, which you can find over the counter." I just emailed her about it ;)

For acne I use the brand body shop tea tree wash. I also apply the ointment clindamycin benzoyl peroxide (pregnant safe) once or twice a day. Prescribed by dermatologist.

For or hyperpigmentation I apply coconut oil but it hasn't helped :( I've been to several dermatologists for it and most simply suggest bleaching cream which I am not willing to do.

    Good luck!
  • With all my pregnancies, my skin has been bad first trimester. It gets better in the second, so I'm waiting and hoping for that. I totally get how you're feeling. It sucks. Hang in there.

  • I've been dealing with terrible eczema around my eyes since this summer, and the pregnancy has made it worse than ever.  I was using desonide before the pregnancy but it's on the no no list now. So I quit using makeup remover wipes and switched to Arbonne's calm face wash and lotion, and I apply Honest Co Ultimate Healing Balm on my eyes morning and night.  This has taken all the redness, swelling, and itching out and I only have occasional peeling but it's very mild.  I don't have any suggestions for the acne, but maybe the honest healing balm can help spot treat the dryness and eczema.
  • I broke out REALLY REALLY bad with my son, and my OB told me it was ok to use a little benzoyl peroxide.  So this time around I've been putting a little of it in my moisturizer as a preventative and so far my skin is doing good. The moisturizer I'm using is Ponds Dry Skin Cream, I read online it was one of the better ones for acne prone skin.  Best of luck, acne sucks!
  • I've been using revive labs glycol acid cream. I read that glycolic is supposed to be safe for pregnancy, and it helps with oncoming blemishes as well as fading previous marks. Just make sure your skin gets used to it or you will end up really dry and flaky, maybe try every other day to start.
  • I totally feel you, I haven't had acne with this pregnancy but my eczema is OUT OF CONTROL to the point where they recommended I go on prednisone, which I refuse to take so I'm suffering.  I do use cortisone on my skin which helps but not enough.

I had had horrible acne in my first pregnancy and I used apple cider vinegar which kills bacteria followed with coconut oil.  It sounds insane but it helped a lot. Hope you find relief soon!
