Pumping question

the last two days I've pumped, I got way more out of the left than the right side. Both times LO had fed from the right side before pumping. Would that be why it would there be a reason I'm getting more from one side than the other? Does that affect my supply or how much LO is getting from one side? Also the left side (the side I get more from) sprays out, whereas the right side just drips.

Re: Pumping question

  • That's normal. You will get less from the side you just fed from. And your letdown will be stronger from the left since LO didnt nurse from that side.

I would just suggest switching sides the last feed is from that way you won't have an oversupply on one side. Because you are still pumping on the right side after LO has nursed which is telling your body to make more milk. When I'm pumping after feeding I try to switch up which side was fed from last pump.

  • @SuperherosMom okay thank you! I was concerned about my supply!
  • I EP and my left side always produces more, sometimes almost double the right. After googling this appears to be something that's common.
  • Agreed. My right side always produced double my left.
  •  My left side always produces more milk. When talking to my daughters pediatrician about her breast-feeding, she said it is very common for one breast to produce more milk. That's just the way it is sometimes. I wouldn't really worry about it

  • I asked the LC about this yesterday bc my right side produces a lot more than the left. She said its normal and also has to do with your dominant hand (you usually produce more milk on that side).

Thanks everyone! I feel a lot better about it now! @mom2be2016 that's interesting I would have never guessed that! I love facts like that haha
  • I got 3.5 oz from my right side earlier and 1 oz from my left. Figured it was because I only nurse him on my right side. He is too painful of a latch on my left.
  • I was just about to google this exact question! Thanks J16 moms :)
