I am pregnant with my second child and was considering using a midwife. Anyone use a midwife, and what was your experience like?
I'm currently using a midwife and LOVE my experience so far. This is my 3rd pregnancy, I used OB's with my other two. And this pregnancy has by far been my best experience. I see a group of midwives and they're all so awesome. I'll never use and OB for pregnancy again. The care is just so much more personable, and they really take the time to make sure you leave each appt happy and with all questions answered. Night and day difference in care. (I'm 35 weeks btw. So have gone 8 months using them for my prenatal care.)
I had an OB for my first pregnancy and switched to a Midwife for this one and I couldn't be more thrilled! My midwife is so involved and personable, and I can tell that she genuinely cares about her patients. She's been a midwife for 20+ years and I really feel like my baby and I are in good hands.

I had a midwife for both of my previous pregnancies. I absolutely loved the experience, they were so kind and genuinely caring and took the time to get to know me and my husband and ensure we had all the information to make the best choices for us. I would highly recommend at least meeting with a midwife!
I go to a group that's half midwives half OBs, you see everyone in the practice and deliver with whoever is on call at that time. I love it because they all work together and I feel like I get the benefits of both perspectives.
My 1st pregnancy i had a midwife, and i just felt more cared about. The only part i didnt like was how less experienced they were with delivery.
I'm sure this has been addressed already but most midwives are NOT less experienced with delivery!! The midwife practice I am with is absolutely hopping! Each midwife is on-call at the hospital a few days a week and they probably deliver one or two babies a day! They are highly experienced!!!
Maybe what the PP meant is that they are not able to perform as many interventions during birth, so if a delivery becomes complicated and requires a C-section, forceps, vacuum assist etc, that is not within the midwife's scope of practice and they will bring in the on-call OB to assist, but this is exactly what would happen in any situation.
Normally, you labour with the assistance of a nurse and the OB is called in to deliver and in the case of any complications. With a midwife, you labour and deliver with your midwife. They see so many births that they will be very skilled at identifying if your delivery is not going the way they would like and they will know when to bring in a doctor if needed.

This too. My main midwife has at least 20 years of experience. The other 3 that she works with have 15-20 years experience. They do have a few midwives in training but, everyone's gotta start somewhere! Plus they would never partner up a new MW with another newer MW. So I know at least of one them will have decades of experience.
Thanks ladies! I appreciate your comments. With my first child I ripped so my only concern is that they know how to sew me up if that were to happen again.
This is my first pregnancy and we are going to meet with a midwife at our next appointment. I have done a lot of research and we definitely want to go with a midwife. Only heard great things!
