Dr Sher - SIRM - IVF .. PCOS

Hello,
Has anyone had any experience with Dr Sher in Las Vegas or any of his SIRM locations? I recently switched to his clinic after getting a 2nd opinion from him. His staff has been wonderful so far. I was frustrated with my old RE bec I didnt feel like they were trying hard enough to find a proper diagnosis. I gave Dr Sher all my #'s & info, he seems to think I have PCOS (which ive thought all along! but my RE dismissed my concerns)... i have a consultation to confirm this with Dr Sher soon... his ivf protocol for PCOS patients is completely different than what my RE wanted to do. I just had a hard time believing i only had an ovulation problem (anovulatory cycles) bec we have been ttc for 4 yrs.. did 6 mo clomid, 3 iui's... confirmed ovulation on all of those cycles plus i know i ovulate on my own sometimes bec one of my iui cycles was natural. my husbands s/a were all good except slightly low morph (5.5%) so he isnt the issue. My RE told me when I started seeing her we wouldn't need IVF & IUI would work bec all they need to do is get me to ovulate with meds... welllll 3 failed IUI's later & nothing! I just know something else (i suspect egg quality) is wrong & i wasnt willing to go thru with IVF with my RE if i had concerns. I want to be properly diagnosed & treated if im going to spend $20k! Has anyone had a hard time getting properly diagnosed as PCOS?

Re: Dr Sher - SIRM - IVF .. PCOS

  • Wait.. So your RE had you go through 3 treatment cycles without doing any testing? I don't live near LV so I can't comment on dr sher, but I would absolutely switch if you feel more comfortable. I didn't have any trouble getting a PCOS diagnosis as I have been dealing with large cysts rupturing since I was a teenager, but I did have trouble getting a dr to take me serious for my really painful periods (turns out I have endo and wasn't crazy!). Self advocacy is a big part of getting proper care and is unfortunately necessary for women in many cases.

  • no sorry i should have clarified... when i said i gave dr sher all my #s, i meant all my testing info & entire fertility background.. my original post was so long i was trying to shorten.. my RE said i didnt have PCOS bec i didnt have polycystic ovaries & im not insulin resistant... i just read a discussion about pcos posted a few days ago & several people said they have PCOS & they dont have polycystic ovaries & not insulin resistant.. i have every other symptom besides those two
  • I have PCOS and I'm not insulin resistant, but  I believe you technically have to have 3 of the 4 criteria to be diagnosed so that could be why your RE didn't think you have it. My brain isn't working today but I think the criteria are

    1. Polycystic ovaries
    2. Hormonal imbalance
    3. Insulin resistance
    4. Irregular periods

** someone please correct me if I'm wrong

  • I go to Sher clinic - Central Illinois.  **warning** We were successful with our first round of IVF (fresh cycle) in 2014.  I am now in the March cycle for a frozen embryo transfer.  I've loved the people at the clinic, and while each clinic is run by a different physician, they do seem to collaborate.  Best of luck!
  • I'm at SHER in NYC and loving it thus far. Finally just confirmed endometriosis (which we suspected for years). Last RE had us hitting our heads against a wall telling us we were young and "fine". So definitely feel like SHER institute has taken all our concerns seriously and I feel like its a more cooperative approach. I'm just getting ready to cycle so don't have any other info than that. Best of luck.
