Plexus, anybody?

I met with a friend lately who was telling me all about Plexus and how she's been taking it throughout her pregnancy (she's 5 months along) and has seen amazing differences between this pregnancy and her first child. Apparently she completely avoided the first trimester exhaustion and has tons of energy, doesn't have the back pain that she said was absolutely awful with her last pregnancy, and is completely "regular" and headache-free. She even told me that she takes the Plexus multivitamins in place of prenatal vitamins because it's apparently better, and her doctors are totally supportive of all of it, too. Everything my friend told me was so fascinating, and the science behind it definitely sounds legit. She even makes enough money to stay at home with her son by selling Plexus, which I'm even considering, too. In the past 7 months, she went from making $100 a month to over $1200 a month, and all she does is post on social media about the results she's seeing in her life and other people's lives since taking Plexus. Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone else has heard of Plexus and considering it and/or has been taking it. I'm personally considering it now, after learning all about what's in the products and how everything is natural and plant-based and Plexus' main focus is gut health. It kind of sounds too good to be true yet it makes all the sense in the world at the same time!

Re: Plexus, anybody?

  • Obviously an advertisement for the product. Can we get rid of posts like these?

  • @AnnaS930 that's actually really hurtful because I am neither taking nor selling it... I literally just want to know if any other pregnant women are seeing results from it like my friend. I wanted to share the same information she gave me this week when I first learned about it, so I'm sorry if it sounds like I'm trying to "sell" anything, but I'm really not.
  • This line here sounded awfully suspicious to me: "In the past 7 months, she went from making $100 a month to over $1200 a month, and all she does is post on social media about the results she's seeing in her life and other people's lives since taking Plexus"...perhaps you just have a knack for sounding like an infomercial? Not trying to be hurtful, just made me think it was phony. I wouldn't worry about being too hurt by my comment, I have no pull to have your conversation taken down, perhaps you'll get a lot of response and I'll be left looking like a fool? I don't aim to offend, I just honestly did not believe this to be a legitimate question with no motives behind it!

Sorry, but I'm with @AnnaS930 - this read like you're trying to sell the product, which isn't something I really appreciate on these boards.

OP if you're interested in this supplement, I would talk to YOUR doctor about it. They'll be able to best guide you on whether or not it is something you can/should try.

ETA: If you're friend is selling it and making a good chunk of change off of her sales, OF COURSE she is going to sing praises for the product! This is a basic sales/marketing tactic. I know plenty of people who constantly spew high praise about Shakeology (Beachbody's shake) and while I think it's delicious, it's not the miracle elixir most coaches tout it to be. Like I said, take the ingredient list to your doc and see if they have any concerns.

Full disclosure, I'm a Beachbody coach, but I actually don't drink Shakeology as per my doc's recommendation.

@AnnaS930My only motive is to know if anyone's taking it and seeing some sort of success with it. I was personally impressed by the income it's brought into her life so that's why I shared that little tidbit about it helping her out so much. It sucks that my fascination and excitement apparently sounds like an infomercial, but I can't change what you believe about my intentions. I do hope that your comment doesn't deter anyone from giving actual input because I put this out there for exactly that reason. I thought that's part of what this community is for: to bounce ideas around during our pregnancy and to support each other.

It delete this post if no one has experience with it and all I keep getting from people is that I'm trying to advertise it. I just wanted input and thoughts, not accusations.
  • Sounds like your friend was making a sales pitch (even if you're not ha ha!)  I would remember that every pregnancy is different so you should take it with a grain of salt that your friend is having a better experience with her pregnancy this time around.  I personally wouldn't put much stock in it.  Even friends can go to sales mode when they get into these home businesses.  I would do your research and make a decision based on what your doctor says and the medical evidence you can find for these supplements.  Most are complete bunk.
  • I've seen a couple friends and one family member trying to sell Plexus on FB. When I researched it and the reviews online, I wasn't impressed. It's your typical multi-level business so everyone raving about it is making money off of it. Hard to feel you're getting much honesty in those kinds of situations. And I've seen "results photos", but I don't know what else these people have been doing besides taking expensive Plexus suppliments, but I'd be willing to bet it included exercise and diet. You know, things that contribute to weight loss without having to shell out a fortune and become some business's lacky in attempt to make a buck.

  • @camichael84 I've been doing research and seeing the results photos you've mentioned, too, but honestly those don't mean much to me because I'm not trying to lose any weight. Which I'm guessing is one of the reasons for why a lot of people take Plexus. I'm more interested in the other stuff, like whether it really helps with headaches and indigestion and chronic pain, etc. especially if it helps during pregnancy! I would actually love to hear from somebody who's been taking it but NOT selling it, which is why I brought this all up on TB anyway. I don't have any friends besides the one I mentioned who takes Plexus so it's hard to find people I know (not that I personally know people here on TB either, haha) who can tell me about real results they've seen.
  • I don't think Plexus even recommends that their product be used during pregnancy. I could be wrong. When people try to sell stuff they are going to tell you what you want to hear. Why do a weight loss drink during pregnancy anyway?
  • @drmh22 I'm more interested in their probiotic and multivitamin products, not the weight loss things like their Slim drink. I agree that doing a weight loss drink during pregnancy doesn't make much sense, but maybe it regulating your blood sugar could be good?
  • There's a lot to be said for leading a healthy lifestyle while pregnant, including eating whole/natural foods and staying active. I think that's the best way to deal with the issues that come with pregnancy, not supplements. Obviously, the above is easier said than done when it comes to dealing with pregnancy.

  • Assuming this is not an advertisement:

I don't think your friend's success with the pregnancy is necessarily related to Plexus. Every pregnancy is different, so she just might be lucky this time around.

I would not take Plexus while pregnant without specifically speaking to MY doctor. I wouldn't take anyone else's word for it. (And, TBH, I would never take it while pregnant anyway.)

If you are interested, I would wait until after your pregnancy to take any Plexus product. And even then, I'd check with a doctor if you are planning on nursing.

@PSUBecky23 if only I had the energy to stay active :/ I try to eat good foods and I'm taking my prenatal vitamins but I have a feeling that my vitamins aren't being absorbed correctly. I'm going to get my doctor to take a look at that when I go in for a blood test. That's one of the things that interested me most about the Plexus multivitamin because apparently there's something in them that helps with absorption (I can't remember the name of it). If it really does turn out I'm not absorbing my vitamins like I should, I wonder if that would help me. I need to do more research into what can help with situations like mine. I just have a suspicion that something isn't right, mostly because of the leg cramps I have at night that used to be taken care of by potassium and magnesium supplements but aren't going away anymore. Maybe it's just a pregnancy thing?
  • @ElcaB I'm definitely planning on talking to my doctor about it before I take anything. I wouldn't want to unintentionally hurt my baby just to try it out. I would hope that anyone who's taking it while pregnant talked to their doc about it

@jessieereddia Re: night leg cramps, totally normal part of pregnancy. Mine started I'm second tri with DD and would be bad enough to make me cry sometimes.

ETA: It was also commonly discussed on my first BMB, and I was far from alone.

  • @camichael84 if they are from the pregnancy I just don't get why they're this bad so early on :/ I'm not even in my third month yet. They remind me of the ones I used to get a few years ago (and those made my cry, too, so I know what you mean) and the potassium supplements always helped me. I hate that it's not helping anymore
  • @jessieereddia Everyone experiences things differently, but I'd definitely bring it up to your doctor at your first appt. They may have an explanation or a remedy for you to try.

Have you tried a more natural/whole food type prenatal? I hear good things about Honest Co brand.

  • @PSUBecky23 no I haven't heard of them, but I'll check it out! I've been taking the Rainbow brand and I'm not sure how natural and whole food they are
  • There is an awesome Facebook group. Plexus pregnancy. Helpful information from pregnant women taking plexus. Check it out. You will be better informed there.
  • Actually called Plexus and Pregnant
  • @Knottie25816533 oh thank you! I had no idea, that's awesome!

This is important to keep in mind: everyone experiences things differently. And every single pregnancy is different. I did some research and I really, really doubt that your friend feeling better this pregnancy is because of the supplements. Sorry, but it really sounds like she was just trying to make a buck with you, especially if it's one of those pyramid business models where she can recruit you to "her team" (I only researched the supplements, I did not read anything about the business model). Just sounds like an expensive non-solution for normal pregnancy symptoms. Some women will have amazing first pregnancies and terrible symptoms the next. If you're asking for experiences/input, I personally wouldn't consider it. But you are different and obviously have different life experiences and opinions, as we all are. Bottom line on this post though: it does sound like a sales pitch and, if you decide to go for it, I believe I read somewhere in the TOU that posts alluding to things that would bring you income are not allowed so I'd just steer away from selling here.

  • I'll reply to a few things here...  OP- whether or not you meant to, this post sounds like a pretty obvious attempt to sell plexus.  Exactly like the 5-6 Facebook friends of mine who (annoyingly) post about it 5-6 times a day.  Often the exact same posts as one another.  Pyramid scheme companies, especially those in the "healthcare" arena, are usually just a whole lot of snake oil.  And maybe your friend is making a lot of money, but how much is she spending?  What is her actual sales margin?  Be wary, dear.

This is my second pregnancy and I am coasting through compared to my first, for no specific reason. I'm not doing anything different, in fact I'm much busier this time.  So is does seem to be true in my case that no two pregnancies are alike.

and to the person who mentioned honest co vitamins.  I am taking the whole food prenatal and dha supplements and I'm liking them.  They have a vanilla or strawberry coating which is so nice.  But I am taking 5 pills a day which sucks.  I have tried nearly every honest product and love them all, from the household cleaners, to the baby care and diapers, to the personal care items.  And if you're a natural products shopper anyway, you can't beat the free shipping on the bundles.  I love never having to buy heavy cleaners or bulky diapers at the store- they magically arrive on my doorstep! (No I do not get paid by honest!  Only Jessica Alba is raking in the millions here!)

  • I would rather invest in a high quality probiotic from a company that's not a pyramid scheme. Eating well, whole foods, balanced diet and some good probiotics will all be helpful for overall health, not just in pregnancy.

The fact that she had a better pregnancy could be for a number of reasons. Whether or not they're related to plexus ... *shrugs* who knows. I do know that their stuff is SUPER overpriced, and there's no way I would personally pay that much for them.

  • I actually just researched Plexus last week, when I started getting bombarded by friends on social media who recently became "ambassadors". (It's not as bad as Rodan & Fields yet. That's a whole other story.)

To me, the bottom line came down to this: there is NO clinical research that supports Plexus' claims. The company actually refuses to undergo evaluation and insists they have all the proof they need.

Plexus is not regulated by the FDA, which means they don't have to prove they're safe or effective to be on the market.

There are plenty of other safe vitamins/supplements out there that cost way less. Always do your research, especially before getting involved with a MLM company (or as most of us refer to them, pyramid scheme).

  • Your welcome! I found the page very helpful
  • Since we are on the topic of supplements, does anyone else use "Standard Process" products?
  • I would say not to take Plexus or any of those other MLM (BB, Advocare, etc) products while pregnant because they do NOT have to be approved by the FDA and are not regulated. Yeah I'm sure Plexus is saying its "safe" but the reality is that NO ONE KNOWS! Regardless of how your friend is feeling it's a risk I would not take at all.
  • Only person I know who uses it is my sil because she has severe constipation issues (at 7 she would ask for enemas to help her feel better). She said her pooping issues have improved. Keep in mind that she's not pregnant so I can't say anything about that
  • I did try their BioCleanse for a little while, and I will say that it did help clean me out. I've never been ... um ... "regular", and I was while I was taking that.

  • Im 4 days in on plexus triplex and I'm already feeling a difference in my pain I think I suffer with gastritis and esphogitis and I'm feeling a difference I started it mainly to feel better and for my gut sake from what I'm reading it's safe to take during pregnancy
