C section 1 month later

How do the c-section momma's feel 1 month later? I feel good but want to be 100% better so I can start going to the gym but I still don't feel like I'm there yet.  Also feel like I'm a little tender on my right side still if I do too much around the house.  Any mom's out there can share how they feel, when did you feel up to working out?  Is the tender area on the right normal?  Also would like to add that I felt that my recovery has been very good this far.
thanks

Re: C section 1 month later

  • Same? 5 weeks out. Mostly better and I have been going for longer walks. Recently my incision area has become a little sore. My little guy tends to kick when trying to get gas bubbles out and pretty much always gets that spot. It could be from being a little more physical lately too. I don't feel ready to work out but I have my 6 week check up soon so I will see what the ob says. Good luck to everyone else still healing.

  • I'm 3 weeks out and while I feel pretty good aside from the occasional stinging, I'm still having some bleeding which I'm attributing to the fact that I've resumed 100% of my normal activities minus working out (was told 6 weeks for sex, heavy lifting, and workouts). The bleeding g has actually increased over the last few days and while I'm not passing huge clots or going through a pad an hour, it's making me paranoid. Anyone else still experiencing bleeding?
  • STM with repeat C-Section. My first daughter is now 2. She was breech and because fluid levels dropped off at 37 weeks I had an emergency C-section. I had pain and tenderness for probably at least a month after she was born. I started working out around 5-6 weeks.
My second daughter will be 4 weeks tomorrow. Not sure if it's because this delierery was scheduled and more laid back, but recovery has been much easier. I only took pain pills maybe 2 days after leaving the hospital, and my incision has not bothered me at all. I started doing short slow walks around 2 weeks. Ive worked up to walking 1 1/2-2 miles a day in the last couple weeks.
  • With dd#1 it honestly twelve weeks. I expect the same for ds#2. But, this second time seams harder since I labored for 24hrs before my c. Also my scar didn't stop itching/stinging for 6months or so, also with dd1 I had to wear granny panties for a long long time because I couldn't stand to have anything touching it. I'm two weeks out now and still peeling glue. Scared to death to cough /sneeze! I went to the park with both kids and out to lunch because I was feeling up and and got dizzy and pale and sweaty. The anesthesia takes a long time to work out of your system. Dh said, You had a major operation, they had your organs sitting around in bowls for Petes sake. It's hard to wait on your body to recover 6 weeks for a c is kind of a joke in my opinion. That's the time for a normal vaginal birth to heal.

I am. My flow will be minimal, then lo will have a stretch of sleep and I will run around the house to finish chores or sneak out to the store and my flow will increase to that of a normal heavy day for the next few hours. Sitting in a nursing position for hours with short trips to the bathroom and kitchen doesn't really help get that worked out of you.
  • While we're on the subject - how long did you use an abdominal binder post c-section? Did you find it helped a lot, and do you recommend any brand or style that worked well?
I'm two weeks out and still using the one from the hospital. It seems like it's getting to be too big though, and it's definitely bulky. When I fold it over to make it more comfortable, I feel like I look like I'm wearing a sumo wrestler belt under my clothes. I'm short and have a short torso though so that doesn't help either.
  • Also still bleeding at almost 6 weeks later...

  • I'm 4 weeks out and starting to feel much more normal. I have slowly started doing more normal daily things since about two weeks. But when I say slowly I mean it. Most days I only do a little bit here and there. I try to get baby and myself out at least once a day. We have gone for a few 20-40 min walks but slowly. I spend the rest of my day on the couch. I don't lift anything heavy and I won't go back to the gym until at least 6 weeks. I haven't worn a pad in over a week. If I do too much, I may have some very light bleeding the next day, but only enough that it wipes on the TP not enough to to need anything in my underwear. My abdomen is sore at times and tender if I am busy that day, so still getting signs if I do too much, and try to avoid doing much the next day. I think everyone's body recovers differently, some bodies don't handle the trauma well, while others heal quickly. The key is to listen to your body and follow the signs.

  • So pleasantly surprised by recovery. It hadent been easy and I certainly couldn't go to the gym but I really expected worse!
  • @Hipshaker @MssyMmmy this may be tmi but are you all passing clots? For the last two days, I've been passing small clots every time I sit down to use the bathroom. I know they say to only worry about big clots but it's strange since I went two weeks with nothing and now it's back!

I didn't have a c-section but this happens to me too.  I will have no bleeding at all and then a bunch of small clots and bleeding, and then nothing again.  I don't remember that with my first but hoping it is normal.
  • I was just about to call the OB about this.  I am almost 3 weeks postpartum and I had stopped needing ibuprofen until a few days ago.  I have been more active(grocery shopping and walking) and have had to go back to taking Tylenol and ibuprofen. The area is sore and radiates into my low back and hip area.  I think my muscles are probably just still very weak and are putting strain on my back and hips but it's disconcerting to suddenly start having discomfort after virtually none.  I am also bleeding again,  very lightly,  and passing small clots.
  • Anyone have crazy bad headaches? Everyone thinks it's from the spinal block, and I actually read that it's the most common symptom. My incision is actually healing really well, but the headache is killing me.
  • I'm 2 weeks out and feeling pretty good. Have been able to go on 1-2 mile walks since about 1.5 weeks. At night sometimes I feel a little stinging or aching under the surface, but I'm guessing it's just from pushing myself. I haven't had to take too much of the pain meds - I never filled the narco (sp?) and I have mostly taken the Motrin for enforcement / headaches.

@Jessdub10I haven't really worn the abdominal binder since leaving the hospital bc it's too hard to put on. At my postpartum appt my ob said that she doesn't recommend wearing it more than 2 weeks after delivery bc it hinders your redevelopment of abdominal muscles.

@sojorairie I was having really bad headaches too and my ob told me to drink caffeine in the morning. She said it was okay for bf'ing, just don't drink it at night. I've been having about 60mg in the morning and I haven't had a headache in 3 days.
  • Thanks for sharing all your experiences. I feel the same, trying to do more each day but within moderation. Finally went out for a walk with the baby twice this week since it warmed up abs it felt good to get out.  I stopped wearing my abdominal binder cause it got uncomfortable and my husband said I don't need it.  Hope everyone is enjoying their babies!

Yes I've had clots too. Not as much as before but for a few weeks it was fairly consistent. My midwife said the more active you are to expect them as there is a scab that forms where the placenta detached.

  • I'm currently only 5 days out but I don't feel too aweful. Thankfully my husband has been home with me and is so helpful! I feel bad that he does so much while I do so little but he laughs and tells me that I've done more than he could ever do. I've noticed some stinging and burning on and off on my incision bur I'm more freaked out about tearing since a friend told me that happened to her. tmi bur yesterday was the first and only time I had a bowel movement since before surgery on saturday. Kinda has me worried.

I have been passing a few dime size and smaller when I sit down to use the bathroom too. But I'm only 2.5 weeks out from my cesarian. I hate that this is just gonna come and go at will for weeks. I hate wearing pads.
  • @hipshaker yes!! It totally grosses me out! I can't wait to get the all clear for tarpons (oh the things I never knew I'd appreciate pre baby!)
  • So I'm officially 1 week post csection and I'm nervous about removing my bandage. My midwife said I have to remove it today or tomorrow. :/
  • @sea8884 I was surprised it wasn't so bad underneath. When a nurse took it off she said the bandage was clean and not even doing anything. It took forever for me to was the adhesive off though.

  • My bandage and staples were off three days post csection.  My recovery went great. Haven't taken any pain meds since leaving the hospital except for some nursing pains. I leaked fluid from the incision site for about 2 weeks though.
  • When I went for my one week post op. the dr was very impressed with my incision site. It's pencil thin and fully closed. She went ahead and gave me the green light to drive and go back to regular activities/house work
