About a month ago I posted about how I was going to look into relactation and several of you ladies gave me a ton of wonderful advice!! Well, I have officially begun my journey. I managed to get an appointment with my OB last week to switch my BC. I was previously on the pill, which had estrogen in it, and my doctor agreed that that could possibly hinder my efforts. So I've switched to the mini pill and have been on it for a week now. I have a timer set on my phone to make sure I still take it at the same time every day. I'm so used to taking a pill it seemed the best option for me!
I've started pumping again every few hours. My goal is 8-10 times a day, if not more. I'm also going to try doing one "power pump" a day. I've also spoken to a LC and she seemed confident that as long as I'm diligent I can do this. So I'm trying to stay motivated during my MOTN pumps lol I'm exhausted. But I'm hoping this will work and I can get my sweet babe back to the breast!!
I'm also taking reglan (but keeping a close eye out for signs of my depression) and taking a lactation support supplement. And drinking nasty, nasty Mother's Milk Tea (which I've found I can tolerate with LOTS of sugar!). So, no milk yet but I have noticed an increase in my appetite and my breasts have started to get sore if I go too long without pumping. I'm hoping these are good signs. I'm looking into seeing a new LC to get an SNS and talk about renting a pump to see if it makes any difference from my own.
Anyway, sorry for the long post!! Lots going on. And basically just trying to stay positive and motivated enough to do this
Re: Update on my Relactation Journey!
The tea is pretty gross, it helps me to drink it over ice and to add a splash of lemon.
@Nehouston I will definitely add some skin to skin to our schedule! I love cuddle time anyway (:
Renting a hosptial grade pump might also be helpful, if that's an option. And could also try hand expressing milk after you're don't pumping to get a little extra stimulation.
I would definitely look into renting a hospital grade pump as @buckleyk suggested. From what I understand the ones for home use (especially free pumps through insurance) pale in comparison to the hospital grade pumps. The lactation specialists that I've worked with always recommend them for moms with supply issues.
Keep us posted!
@etayislove thank you! How do I find out where LLL is near me? I've tried googling it and got nada. I know there isn't one in my tiny town, but I have two bigger cities fairly close by (both 30-45 minutes away).
Edited because it posted before I finished!
