RSV

So with daycare comes ... RSV?! My LO goes to an in home daycare with 5 kids. This morning, the woman told me one of the kids has RSV. That kid isn't there today, but I kept LO at home (DH needed a day off anyways) just to play it safe - and actually not realizing the kid wasn't there today. LO has had some cold symptoms the past few days ... Runny/ stuffy nose and cough but no fever. What do you guys think? I'm not familiar with RSV but from what I googled it seems like either nothing but a common cold, or something that can cause pneumonia pretty quickly in babies. LO is 4 months.

    Mine got it from daycare. Hers didn't develop beyond RSV fortunately, and we were able to treat it from home with breathing treatments prescribed from the pediatrician. 
    It's like a severe common cold. Wheezing, chest contractions, or a wet sounding cough are the main signs (mine developed some wheezing).  My little one didn't have a fever the whole time, and was her normal happy self, eating and sleeping normal. But- she just sounded SO congested I felt better having her checked.
    I would probably recommend a check-up. I think it's better to catch it before it gets bad.

    Lurker from June '16 here. My son had RSV at 2 months and has had awful breathing issues ever since (he's 6 now). It can very quickly turn into horrible respiratory junk, so I'd say to be careful!!

    If you're worried you can take him to get checked for RSV. My son started out with those symptoms and it turned bad pretty quickly, and it's extremely contagious so you're LO sadly is probably already exposed to it. I had to do breathing treatments every 4 hours for a month. It was terrible

    My best friends LO got this at 6 months old. Had to be hospitalized for 4 days!!!! It's no joke. I would take LO to the doctor just to play it safe. Her LO was so dehydrated he wasn't producing tears or urine.

    Thanks mommas! DH took her to the doctor today and the doctor said she is all clear - thankfully. We're both teachers so we're off the weekend & Monday. I think I'm going to see if DH wouldn't mind staying home with her tomorrow and then she can return on Tuesday. Thanks for all of your advice! Sorry to hear about so many sick little ones ... Hopefully they're on the mend now! A sick LO is just the worst.

    We spent the morning in the ER... Apparently with RSV things can change very quickly!

    Yes, it happens fast! I hope LO is feeling better?! I have a horrible cough/cold and I'm praying LO doesn't get it.

    My nephews, 18 mo. old twins, were just hospitalized for RSV that quickly turned into pneumonia.  One twin spent two nights in their local hospital, the other had a lung collapse and had to be taken by ambulance to a university medical center with an pediatric ICU an hour away, and was there for ten days.  Both had it move into pneumonia within a few days of showing symptoms, even though they were receiving breathing treatments right away.  The twin who was hospitalized for ten days is home, now, but with feeding tube that won't come out for at least another week.  He nearly died.  They're not little babies, either, they're over a year old and toddling. They contracted it at a home-based daycare.

    Omg calling my pediatrician ASAP tomorrow. LO has had a cough for a few days. A wet cough. And some chest congestion and runny nose. I had no idea about rsv.

    We had it to :( got it from daycare it was horrible! Luckily never got any worse then the cough, wheezing, stuffy nose but three weeks later and she still is congested poor baby. You can test negative for it if it's early on to. It's scary for sure hope everyone gets better quick!!

    Ugh my LO just got it too. Started out like a cold but then this nasty cough came along. Docs are telling us to wait it out and there's nothing they can do. They did test her breathing and she's totally fine. She just sounds awful.

    I took LO to the doctor this am for a nasty cough and some wheezing. He was clear for RSV but needed a breathing treatment in office and left with a prescription for albuterol and instructions to use the nebulizer every 4 hours. It's so hard when they are sick.
