Baby Product Heroes & Zeros

Now that we've had our babies - what products that you purchased have been the heroes and which ones have fallen short or not been used?

My heroes:
-Owlet monitor
-Summer Infant Swaddleme Wraps
-Rock n Play (automatic)
-Avent Soothie Pacifiers
-medela steam cleaning bags

My Zeros (not necessarily bad products - just not working for us right now):
-Arms Reach co-sleeper bassinet (baby refuses to use it)
-co sleeper that goes in the bed (also refuses to use this one )
-Lanolin cream (I bought like 4 bottles to have in various places around the house and don't use it at all anymore)
-moby wrap (I'm scared to use it)
-Pampers Baby Dry diapers (someone bought us these instead of the swaddlers and we've had sooo many leaks; can't wait to be done with this box)

    Heroes:
    -Monkeywear wrap
    -Imagine prefold diapers
    -Bamboobies breastpad
-Nursing bras, after I went into a local shop and got properly fitted
    -Glider chair

    Zeros:
-Glider elite swing (she only likes the bouncer portion which would have cost a heck of a lot less on its own)
-My Brest Friend (haven't used it yet)
-Lanolin as well! But for the opposite reason, as I had to switch to a prescription.

ETA: @Ljohn43, just take the plunge with your Moby! You won't regret it.

  • Heroes
    - swing, boppy pillow, handsfree pumping bra, boba wrap, luvs brand diaper  (for the price!) And the diaper genie(that everyone said I wouldn't use but I LOVE IT)

    Zeroes
Newborn outfits (sleepers and what was needed most in early stages) bouncer, target brand diapers, pampers wipes, mam pacifiers, glider (just because the dang thing broke in the first week :(  )
  • Heroes:
    -my Brest friend pillow
    -best furniture Braxton model glider
    -moby wrap
-cosleeper that goes in our bed
    -wubbie pacifier
-medela electric pump with larger breast shields that actually fit
    -lanolin nipple cream
    -baby gowns
-bamboo Aden and Anais sleeping bag
    -flower pillow bath
    -nose frida
-grass drying rack for bottle pieces
    -my mom

    zeroes:
    -honest diapers
-RNP (so hoping this changes soon and he'll actually use it!)
-every swaddling blanket (besides the Aden and Anais ones) which sucks because we have every kind, but little man can't stand having his arms swaddled
    -every pacifier besides the wubbie
  • Heroes:
pacifiers - Any kind. She's not picky. And she's really good about spitting it out herself when she's done with it or letting us take it away once she's calmed down.

Baby brezza - Once we switched to formula my poor girl could not stand the wait for a bottle. this machine - though totally not a necessity - is amazing!! She even recognizes the sound and knows food is coming.

Sleep sheep - so many sound choices and it helps her settle herself to sleep. I like it for myself too haha.

    Zeroes:
swaddle blankets - these were awesome for the first week and then she got too active and works herself out of them in no time. Planning on trying a wearable blanket instead.

Bottle warmer - maybe it's just the one I bought but, it takes 9 minutes to warm a 9oz bottle (even if it only has 3oz of formula in it!). My little miss is NOT waiting for that.

    Daisypath Anniversary tickers

  • Lovle to dream swaddled so she can have her arms up!!!  Best!
  • Heroes:
Triple Paste- expensive but the only thing that fixed her awful diaper rash!

MAM pacifier (of course her favorite is the free one that I got in the gift bag from registering at Target)

    Dr. Brown bottles

Newborn clothes-because she STILL doesn't fit in anything else!

Pampers swaddlers- the best absorbing. See below why I don't like Huggies.

    Zeroes:
    swaddling blanket

sleep gowns (I liked them for the first two weeks but they are always riding up)

Huggies (little snugglers I think they're called?)- the little gel absorbers swell so much that it pulled the diaper halfway down her crack and the only time she's ever leaked. I've also heard of these gel absorbers "exploding" and getting everywhere.
  • Heroes:
-Glow in the Dark Mam pacifiers
    -Graco Glider/Swing
    -Dr. Brown's anti-colic bottles
    -Baby Brezza Sterilizer
-Munchkin bottle brushes (with the sponge)
    -Mylicon drops
    -Zippered Sleepers (I loathe snaps!)
    -Pampers Diapers
-Boudreaux's Rash Prevention Spray (Seriously one of the best things I've ever found)
    -Woven Wrap for baby wearing
    -Gerber Soy Formula

    Zeros:
-Huggies diapers! My little girl ended up with a rash very much like a chemical burn!
    -Any pacifier that's not Mam
    -Swaddles (she hates them)
    -Breast milk :(

I'll add more later, but she's fussing...

  • Heroes :
    Hands free pumping bra
Boppy pillow (full circle not the UShape )
    Gripe water
    Compact stroller Graco breaze
    JJ bundle me
    Pampers swaddlers

    Zeros :
    Seventh generation diapers and wipes
    Honest brand diapers
Bassinet sleeper for middle of bed (she won't sleep in it and rolls to her side always )

  • Ok continuing on...
    Heroes:
-Johnson & Johnson Vapor Soothe Bath
    -White Noise
    -Summer Video Monitor
    -Skidders Plush Booties
-Amber Necklace (honestly don't know how I forgot about this in my first post-couldn't live without it for my son)
-Onesies/Sleepers with the fold over sleeve mittens (her hands are too tiny and she can't keep actual mittens on)
-Starbucks... shoot, I suppose that's more for me ;) But seriously, coffee. It helps everyone in the long run if I have my caffeine fix!

    Zeros:
-Nuby Bottle Brush (no sponge and it sprays water everywhere)
    -Baby Mittens
-Receiving Blankets (I have absolutely no use for them)

  • Heroes:
    Dr. Brown's bottles
    Rock and Play
    Bouncer chair
    Zippered NB sleepers (NO SNAPS)
    Halo Sleep Sacks (arms unswaddled)
    Car rides

    Zero:
    Arm-in swaddlers
    Avent Natural Bottles
    Swing-  he hates it

  • Heros:
    *Swaddles
*Avent Philips Soothie pacifer. I didn't even buy/register for this brand, it's what he was given in the hospital and will really only take this one consistently
*Bibs- because he has turned into quite the random spitter
*Burp Cloths- I thought I had way to many and it turns out, I think I need more
*Dr. Browns bottles and the formula pitcher- The pitcher is a GOD send and was only $12 on Amazon. I pre-mix DS's bottles each morning and they are ready to go in the warmer.  He's drinking 2.5 oz each feeding and the formula scoop is, well you know good for 2oz. I make 20oz. at a time and it's good for a day and a half
*Nutramigen formula because DS could not tolerate anything else and it has been worth every penny so far

    Zeros:
*The other 10 + pacifiers types/brands that we have
*Lanolin cream- I used it twice and have 2 bottles still, that have never been used.  DS thankfully didn't do a number on my nipples while I was breastfeeding
*Car seat cover that zips over the whole thing.  Never used it, I have a cover that I bought from Screaming Owl that I love
*Majority of DS's socks. I have to put his socks on over the pants because otherwise they fall off.

  • Heroes:
    Pampers swaddlers
    mam pacifiers
    Playtex Vent Aire bottles
    Halo sleep sack
    Mommy's Bliss Gripe water
    Cloud B sleep sheep

    Zeroes:
    snap pajamas
Nursing (she won't stay awake and wasn't gaining enough weight)

    BFP #1: 9/26/10 DD: 5/2011
    BFP #2: 7/23/14 - MC: 8/28/14
    BFP #3: 2/22/15 - MC: 3/3/15
    BFP #4: 5/20/15 - Stick baby stick!!!
  • @BarrettJ89 amen to Starbucks and coffee in general!!!
  • Heros:
0-2 month pacifiers (mam or avent)
    my pump
    halo sleepsack (swaddle)
    burp cloths
    A&A swaddle

    Zeros:
Baby Mantra calming lotion (too watery)
    His bathtub (I hate it)
    Summer Swaddle Blankets (too small)
That big ole stack of newborn clothes I bought, washed and was way too small to use
wubbanub (sad, and hope he takes this one day)
    munchkin latch bottle (horrible)

    N (2004)A (2007), N (2010), and L (due 1/2016)
  • @leap_frog DS was born 6w early and is still in some newborn clothes.  Had he not been born early, I would have easily had a couple hundred dollars worth of newborn stuff that would have been put into the attic and unworn. We pretty much bought all the NB outfits, because everyone gifted us at least 3mo. or higher.

I also HATE the Munchkin latch bottles.  I have a 3 pack that I'm just waiting to give away to someone.
  • Heros:
    rock and play
    swaddle me wrap sack
    halo sleep sacks
    manual medela pump

    zeros:
Woombies, have 3 of them and he hates having his arms swaddled

  • Heros:
    Halo sleep sack
    Aden and Anais blankets
    Dr Browns bottles
Vaseline (cured sons diaper rash over any cream under the sun)
    Boba wrap
    Swing

    Zeros:
Wipes warmer - still in the box
    Miracle blanket
Crib and other furniture (STILL hasn't come in, it was ordered in September)
  • Heros:
    My Brest Friend nursing Pillow
Fisher Price Infant to Toddler Rocker
    Maya Ring Sling
    Avent Natural Bottles
McDonald's Chicken McNuggets (yeah, I said it.)
Doing at-home lifestyle newborn pictures instead of "curly baby" portraits
Arm and Hammer Diaper pail (sooo much better than the Diaper Genie)

    Zeros:
    Mamaroo (baby hates it)
Soothies Pacifiers (like I have time to put it back in every 30 seconds)
Aden and Anais Swaddle Blankets (not tough enough for our Houdini)
All newborn hats. Do these stay on for anybody?

Heroes: Fisher price infant to toddler portable rocker (this is where he is guaranteed to have success sleeping) Boppy (I got this a week into my breastfeeding journey and it made things so much easier!) Luvs diapers (good price, no major leakage or issues) Vaseline (helped his dry skin very early on and good for preventing diaper rash) Sleepers that zip (he wears these almost exclusively right now) Wonderweeks and babyconnect apps (so these are new for me but they seem so helpful so far) Zeroes: Graco swing (it honestly is hit or miss whether LO will enjoy it) Ingenuity lullaby sleeper (not quite sure if that's the real name, but it looks so cool with music and light up stars but its so hard to get LO to sleep in it) Crib (maybe it'll be a hero later on but right now I goes unused) Fancy diaper rash creams (Vaseline works just as well right now) Socks (much prefer the clothing with the feet already attached, socks are always coming off) Pacifiers (so far tried munchki and nuk, neither interest my lil man) Bjorn baby carrier (tried twice with no success, will try again...not sure if he doesn't like that particular carrier or if he just won't want to be "worn" (he loves being held and carried in arms so I'm thinking he may like a Moby or something) Wash clothes and fancy baby towels with the hood (super cute but much easier to use my fluffy towel and our washcloths) Shoes (yeah they were gifts, and they are cute, but seriously...?!)
  • Heroes:
    target diapers- so cheap!
    baby bum brush
nuk pacifiers (DS only took gumdrops but she loves nuk)
    swaddle me wraps
    AA swaddle blankets
    snuza go
    white noise

    zeros:
    recieving blankets
newborn onesies- she is too long, however anything but newborn pants fall right off, and they are super short on her. Clothes are difficult.
lanolin- barely have used any this time.

  • *I apologize for lack of spacing above. I'm on my phone and it looks properly spaced until I submit it. Will edit when I get to laptop!
  • Heroes:
recieving blankets - seriously thought these would be useless, and then actually bought another pack. She uses multiple blankets a day.
burt's bees multipurpose ointment - super good for the butt!
    coconut oil nipple cream
phillips avent bottles - got a bottle she would take on the first try
    mittens

    Zeroes:
    newborn undershirts and pants
    swaddleme's
    boppy

thats all I can think of atm

    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • Heroes
Rock and play- someone lent us this and I could literally kiss them!! It's the only place she will sleep
    Soothies pacifiers
Any outfit 0-3 with fold over mittens
    Zipper sleepers

    Zeroes
Halo bassinet- she hates it  :/
Swaddle blankets for swaddling- use them for other things but she hates being swaddled
    Mittens- they never stay on!
Fischer price bouncer- she hates this too!
  • @BarrettJ89 Amber necklace? Like, for teething? I've only heard about this in passing!
  • @BarrettJ89 Amber necklace? Like, for teething? I've only heard about this in passing!
Yes! I buy ours on Etsy because they are so much cheaper than in local shops. SO and I are actually going to buy some for us to wear and one for baby girl. I've done a little bit of reading and the amber has a natural analgesic that is released with body warmth. My son wears his 24/7 (I break the rules and he sleeps in it, otherwise he wakes up a monster) and has been wearing it since 7 weeks (he's 14 months now). It has helped tremendously with teething, although I wouldn't consider it a cure all. It definitely helps. My son actually gets upset when I take it off. They are supposed to help with acid reflux, colic, fevers, sore throats, ear infections, skin problems, etc.

And @stephanienjer amen to the McNuggets! Some days, cooking just isn't worth it...
  • They are supposed to help with acid reflux, colic, fevers, sore throats, ear infections, skin problems, etc.
I had no idea!!! DD has been wearing one since she was about 4 months old. She loves her necklace! If I forget to put it back on after her bath she reminds me. I might pull out her old one for DS to help with his reflux!
  • So interesting to see how some peoples' heroes are others' zeros and vice versa! I guess that's why there are so many different baby products!!!
