Did you get pregnant while on birth control?

If so, what kind were you using?

Re: Did you get pregnant while on birth control?

  • My SIL has 2 pill babies and she was extra careful about taking them when she got pregnant with the second one!

  • I didn't (I had Mirena) but my sister did.  I don't know what kind she was on, but I think she was switching pills when it happened.  I also think she was on was some antibiotics about the same time.
  • Both of my girls were BC babies. The first one I was taking the pill ortho trycyclin lo (I have no idea if that is spelled correctly). I was religious about taking it, same time every day, without fail and I got knocked up after being on it for three years. After she was born, I got a Mirena IUD. I had it removed when I found out I was about 6 weeks pregnant with baby #2, 3 years after I had it put it. It had dislodged (just a little bit, but enough to no longer be effective). After DD#2 was born I got another Mirena which was so uncomfortable I had it removed a year later, did the nuvaring for about a year, and was off BC altogether for about 2 years when we got pregnant with this baby.
  • I did not, but I do have a friend who became pregnant while using the birth control shot. She went in regularly every 12 weeks, and she actually found out she was expecting about 2 days before scheduled to get an updated shot.
  • Yep, twice now!

The first time I was on Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo and taking it perfectly - after a year of taking it I got pregnant. We lost that pregnancy but within two months I was pregnant again with DS #1 (no BC that time!)

This time I was on the minipill while BFing my 1-year-old. I think I must have accidentally taken a pill later on a weekend, and timing is SO important with the minipill, so I will take some credit for this one.

  • I got pregnant 2x on the pill. Both resulted in miscarriage though. Years ago, when it happened the second time my Dr gave me mirena. Never any issues with my first. My second wasn't placed right and got stuck in my uterine wall. We took it as a sign to try again. Got pregnant right away, but experienced our 3rd loss. Now here I am again right after my last mc. My dr is using my start of bleeding date as my "last period" for dating of this one. Fingers crossed tomorrow's ultrasound goes well and we have better dating. She was going off of HCG levels and dating as there wasn't much to see with my first ultrasound. Well here I am babbling....lol
  • @netsirk2013 Fingers crossed for your ultrasound tomorrow!   Keep us updated.   Will be thinking of you. :)
  • This baby will be a BC baby. I was taking the mini pill due to breastfeeding and taking it religiously but here we are lol.  My first child was BC also but antibiotics interfered with him.
  • I conceived my DS while on the pill. I was taking Loestrin and had been taking it for 3 years with no issues. I switched from working night shift to evenings and so that month I changed up the time of day I was taking my pill. Still took it consistently but I guess that change was enough for me to get pregnant! We were shocked!

  • Most of the people I know IRL who have "birth control babies" get the serious side eye from me. It never fails that they were "taking it perfectly" and that they claim to fall into the less than 1% of people to whom this actually happens. I know a statistically unlikely number of people for whom this could actually be true.

  • Update: I'm 8 weeks 2 days and baby looks great. I will remain high risk though.

Kimmy, both times I was- however we learned that I am a hyper ovulator. My regular cycles were 14/16 days. So the hormone of the pill was not strong enough to keep up with my ovulation schedule. I'd recommend the pill to anyone who will take it daily and on time. Just was not my friend with my situation- so I went to an IUD as a more trusted solution.
