Teethers for young baby?

Hey all, my LO is four months old and has started trying to chew on everything. The only problem is that she doesn't have the best hand coordination yet and all the teethers we have are kind of heavy and bulky and she has trouble manipulating them and getting them into her mouth. Any of you have suggestions on teethers that she could hold a little better? We have the best luck with Sophie because she's got lots of long parts (legs and neck) and she can usually get something into her mouth, but she still ends up getting frustrated with that.

Re: Teethers for young baby?

  • LO will be 16 weeks tomorrow, there are only two things she can really manipulate herself to chew on – the Lamaze Rainbow Glow rattle (bought as a toy, not a teether, but she can easily get the eyes in her mouth) and
the Nuby teething blankie. The rattle has a very thin handle, which is perfect. The blankie is basically a glorified potholder (lol) – it doesn't drop like other toys do. It sits on her chest if she lets go, and she can easily grip the sides.

I was also considering getting the baby banana because it seems like the type of easy to grip shape that she can grip in the same way she grips fingers.

  • We have the MAM Bite and Brush teether and my 17 week old seems to like it.  It is small enough that she can grab it out of my hand and has been able to get parts of it into her mouth.  Eventually I hope that she will be able to use the part with the bristles to massage her gums/teeth but she is too little to do that herself still.  We also have interlocking rings, which are narrow enough for her to grab and stick in her mouth too but I like the MAM better because it is a softer silicone.

  • @VioletandRose I totally forgot someone gifted us a similar teething blanket! Found it in LO's room and she is loving it! Thanks for the suggestion!
  • Sophie the Giraffe Teether - soft, lightweight, easy on the gums. Our son is 17 weeks and loves his! Like your LO, he is still learning to grab and hold things by himself. The giraffe is nice because the legs and neck are skinny enough to fit in baby's hand. It also has a squeaker which makes it fun for LO to use. It's sold a lot of different places - Walmart, Target, Babies R Us, Amazon, etc.
