Essential oils and morning sickness

I am 6 weeks 2 days pregnant. Yesterday MS hit me but lasted all day. Today I woke up feeling the same. I went to my massage apps this afternoon. As soon as I walked in my MS was gone. I felt like my old self. I noticed she had an essential oils diffuser. After doing some research and lurking I found that only certain essential oils are safe during pregnancy and some can even help with morning sickness in a diffuser.
I have never used a diffuser but the difference it made with my nausea I would like to start. I have been looking into peppermint. Any recommendations? Pros and cons? Has anyone else tried this?

Re: Essential oils and morning sickness

  • I use peppermint oil for my headaches and love it. My nausea has subsided for the most part, so I can't really vouche for if it works for that. I just rub it on my temples and base of my neck. I'll also put some in with my bath.

  • I have the doterra book and it says to try peppermint or ginger oils for MS.

  • I use Young Living brand.  Peppermint has been a life saver.  I usually just inhale directly from the bottle or place a tiny amount on my upper lip below my nose so the scent lasts longer.  That trick has also helped to block out other smells that can trigger my nausea.

  • Thank you ladies! I'm heading to the store now.
  • I use lavender and ginger on my feet. Definitely helps.
  • Peppermint can help. I choose a more portable option with altoids. :)

  • I love to add Lavendar to my baths especially at bedtime my ms was worse at night and it definitely did and still helps me settle in for the night!

  • Also, order some preggie pop drops from amazon they do help.

My nausea is mostly gone now but here are things that helped; eating frequently, eating a banana in the middle of the night when I wake up a little (because I found if I woke up nauseous I would be all day), preggie pop drops. I also use an essential oil diffuser in my house.
  • One day I accidentally discovered that cough drops help with my nausea.  They have menthol, and are very portable.   I'm avoiding the sugar free ones because they have some sort of ingredient that can have a laxative effect.
  • Are EO ok in pregancy ? I was having trouble with my allergies and a friend told me it was ok she gave me lemon, lavender and peppermint told me to rub it on my chest it helped but then I read it's a no no and been freaked out ever since
  • @10yrslater0205 some oils are safe, some are recommended you stay away from. Google it, I know Young Living has a whole thing about which ones to use for what and why you should stay away from others. I just can't find the page on my phone.

  • Last night I was feel sick as a dog and couldn't even stand it, my mother in law is into essential oils and she gave me some ginger oil to put behind my ears and my chest. Can't even begin to tell you the difference that it made! Wasn't long until I wasn't feeling sick anymore. The only con is that ginger smells so nasty, but it works soo good! I love essential oils, I think everyone should use them
  • My dr knows I prefer holistic health care over being medicated for most issues. However with having HG with this pregnancy, I lost over 8% of my total body weight and I was desperate for any relief. Once we were able to get it under control enough to where I could keep fluids down and lite snacks my dr recommended peppermint essential oil in a diffuser. I still have to take some medications but when my symptoms are light i try to avoid taking meds and instead I go straight for the peppermint essential oil and I swear by it!
