Nausea no throwing up, anyone else?

Ok, so for the past three days I have had this queasy feeling like I'm about to throw up - but I don't. With morning sickness do you actually throw up or is this non-stop nausea feeling normal? Does the ginger candy help for feeling like I'm about to throw up or does it just stop you from throwing up? I'm trying to figure out if going out to trader joes to get ginger candy during my prep period is worth it for me.

Re: Nausea no throwing up, anyone else?

  • I've had the same thing. I've come very close to hurling quite a few times, but nothing has come up yet. I've heard the ginger candies work wonders, but I haven't tried them yet. All I've done for nausea so far is to eat more frequently, and get peppermint candies. I really don't care for ginger, but lately a ginger ale sounds very appealing. The other things I've done are to clean the toilet and keep a large cup in my car to puke in. Trying to plan ahead, because usually if I prepare for the worst, it doesn't happen.

  • Just FYI, there's a weekly Symptoms Thread running where one of the questions is "What symptom is bothering you the most?" and another one it "What has helped?" You may want to check if anything there is relevant. Also, if the candies do the trick, you can share there for the reference of others. :)

  • Yup. For me, being pregnant is basically like a very long hangover: headache, fatigue, nausea, queasy stomach.

  • I've had some hard core nausea the last couple of days with no vomiting. I have SeaBands that I wear around my wrist, they work on pressure points and seem to do the trick. I really like them because they are free of meds and I don't even have to try to put anything in my mouth.

I used to have ginger candy around anyway because I get nauseous when the weather gets weird and it does the trick for that. I haven't replenished my supply yet though and I've been out for a few weeks so I can't say for sure. I've heard peppermint is good for nausea, too. I have small bottle of peppermint essential oil I keep in purse that I sniff, too.

Hopefully you can find something that works for you!

  • @DarthFuriosa I had already checked that thread. The symptoms thread is very general and people aren't being very specific which is why I created this one as I needed specific information. Thank you @Kaytee1087 I will try seabands! @artcheese & @von1976 I'm crossing my fingers this doesn't last the whole trimester or pregnancy since its so awful. I bought some ginger chews from Trader Joes but they are so hard they hurt my teeth. I'm going to try cutting them in half and eating them in small quantities to see if that helps. But I think my mouth is way too small for the size of their chews lol.
  • That is how it was for my first trimester with my daughter, and this pregnancy seems to be following suit. Last time I would drink gingerale, ginger tea, and saltines. And sometimes a really cold smoothie was the only thing I could think about eating. I never actually threw up, just constantly felt like I was going to,

That is the story of every single one of my pregnancies! Constant state of nausea, but no throw up (at least not usually). Blah. This round started like clockwork yesterday at 6 weeks. Welcome to the struggle! I bought those ginger candies last pregnancy but they made me gag...ha!

  • I am 5w4d. Last week I had one day I actually threw up. It was in the car -so gross. Other then that I have been nauseous every time I eat a large meal (regular size pre pregnancy). Club soda, ginger ale and frequent small meals seam to help.
  • Winter mint life savers work for me. And I've only actually thrown up 2 or 3 times. Usually it's just the queasy stomach.
  • All of my pregnancies have been like that throughout the first trimester. Yes, ginger candies help with the actual nausea. It also helps to keep my belly full but not too full. If I am either too hungry or too full, I find myself putting all of my energy and concentration into not vomiting :s

  • All nausea all the time.  I've been eating lemon drops to help combat it, but I ate so many at work the other night that I gave myself a sore om the roof of my mouth.  Nothing I eat or drink helps take care of it.. it's miserable.. :(
  • Sweet tart chews and jolly ranchers are helping me so far.
  • I'm pretty miserable with nausea right now. I constantly just want to lay on the couch and watch TV and check out. One thing I have noticed personally is that what I eat first thing in the morning really matters. If I eat something too sugary or full of carbs I have a rough day, so I've been trying to eat more protein for snacks and meals. I'm sorry, I hear that sick mommy = healthy baby, so I'm trying to be encouraged that all this misery will produce a healthy bundle of joy :)

  • The best way I can describe it a constant hangover. I'm usually ok in the evenings, but literally my entire work day is miserable. I haven't found much of anything to work just yet. Oh and I throw up at least once in the morning.
  • Yeah, more like queezy on and off... worst in the evening or bedtime. I haven't actually vomited but I cam close to in the car today when I was in the passenger side.

I also don't have much of an appetite. Like I get hungry but not much sounds tasty. I haven't had any strong aversions but when I do eat I get FULL after a few bites and then just want to roll around on the floor and feel like a blob. Then I'll be hungry 2 hours later and repeat :/

  • Nausea is really hitting hard today. Well, last night. I was putting DD to bed and got super nauseous. I was able to go right to sleep myself after that, but when I woke up it came back almost full force and has stuck around for the most part.

It doesn't help that like 3 people in my department are sick, 2 are out today, so now I'm paranoid that I'm coming down with something too...

  • This morning has been fun. Everytime I think I am for sure going to puke, it turns into this nasty sounding retchy burp. And I am currently sitting on public transportation because it's the normal way I commute and I didn't want to have to drive over a bridge today.

  • I'm starting to feel this way too, and it was the same with my last pregnancy.  Never physically got sick, but felt like it was going to happen.  I'm hoping I don't throw up this time!  I'm a big baby when I throw up, though maybe when it's "morning" sickness it's not as bad as when you have a stomach bug?  Don't know.

  • I swear it's getting worse by the day. I was trying to eat breakfast today after figuring out the one food that sounded ok. A few bites in, I was gagging yet ravenously hungry and queasy all at the same time. Finished maybe half and now have wanted nothing more than the throw up for the last hour in the hopes maybe this nausea will go away if I do.

  • @mrshudson2014 I think we may be going through something similar, I posted about it on the weekly symptoms thread. I get like a feeling that is almost like a burp, like when you can feel it coming from your stomach, and nothing! Like it feels like I am going to burp but it stops like halfway up and eventually will become a burp. I wonder if this is was nausea feels like? I have never had this feeling before and seems to happen every time I eat something since last night.

Also I felt nausea this morning just reading someone's dinner yesterday...broiled octopus ugh I wish they didn't post that picture to facebook!

  • Mine is nausea all day long, however when it gets super bad... It is all dry heaves with I think is worse than the nausea. My abs are sore from how hard I am gagging... My doc told me i'm eating the wrong food with the morning sickness, so protein, protein and more protein it is! The problem is, everything that is good for me makes me heave.... ugh...
  • Soooo....the nausea turned into actual throw up today. I heaved at least 24 hours of food on the drive to work. I hope this doesn't continue - because it is AWFUL. I read some posts about how eating helps nausea so I had some toast this morning and that set off a firestorm of throw-up. Ugghhh
  • I have good luck starting off with something to drink first. I've been sipping ginger ale or fruit juice and seltzer in the morning. After that, I seem to be able to eat something.

  • @Brickbride I'm with you on the dry heaves! I have had dry heaves every day after work. Today was the worst...I dry heaved my entire ride home. Stopped at Target too...made it in and out without dry heaving got back in the car pulled out of my spot and immediately had to pull over to dry heave. I finally broke down and called my OB...she recommended B6 and Unisom. Trying tonight because I can't handle feeling like I am going to puke at any moment.  The dry heaves are horrible!

Nausea is starting to kick in. The only thing that relieves it is food, like carbs. Unfortunately I feel sick shortly after so I eat more. It's a never ending cycle that results to obscene weight gain. So I have to do something different this time. I ordered some B6, Sea Bands, ginger capsules and ginger candy via Amazon.

  • I am 6wks, and have some pretty crazy nauseousness, but no vomiting. Came close, but nothing. Mostly comes after I eat. Like I am hung over. Drinking ginger ale.
  • With my 1st pregnancy I was nauseous/queasy & didn't vomit.  But I had a lot of gagging & dry heaving, which isn't much better. This baby's the same way too. I've tried Preggie Pop drops (target or pea in the pod) & that brand now has a chew option; chewing mint gum has helped but not great. Sipping ginger ale w/ a little OJ or munching ginger snaps. For supplements I take B6 & ginger root. Also found eating small frequent snacks & meals makes a big improvement. Nausea is an all day affair for me. Good luck!
  • Same. I'm not a puker, but I've sure been feeling nauseous! Still morning sickness!
  • My doctor also recommended the B6 and unisom combination. For the last two nights  I've taken 1/2 a unisom at night with my prenatal and an extra 25 mg of B6 in the morning and it's helped a lot. I've been a little tired in the morning but it's better than the nausea.

  • This has been me this whole trimester! Mint gum really helps settle my stomach quick!
  • Yep, and I tried quite a few things before resorting to unisom and B6. I actually lost weight and just wasn't able to eat. Now I consistently take the meds an have done much better. No vomitting though, only nausea. It's still morning sickness... it's still not fun. You just have to try a bunch of things and see if anything helps. If not, talk to your doctor. I'm 11 weeks now so i'm hoping it starts easing up soon. Hope you start feeling better soon!
  • yup, with every pregnancy. eating protein helps me this time around. preggopops actually do help but I found myself eating them constantly my last pregnancy.

  • It didn't really hit me until last week but hot damn, the nausea is overwhelming. I'm having to force myself to eat and even then, carbs are the only thing that sounds palatable right now. Not good for my desired conservative weight gain :/

  • I was like that last week. I figured out that if I kept food in my stomach, it wasn't so bad. I usually keep an apple or a granola bar near me to munch on if I start getting queasy.
  • I suffered through horrible nausea during my entire first pregnancy and with everyone telling me every pregnancy is different, I thought maybe, just maybe, I wouldn't have any this time around. The answer is nope. It's back and it's just as bad as I remember. Sorry all you ladies are suffering, too. This seasick-y, hungover, constant rolling nausea is for the birds. I hope it comes to an end soon for everyone (me too, please, this time!)!
