Boppy vs Brest Friend

So I had the boppy with my first and thought it was just fine. I would reuse it this go around except DD has quite an attachment to it. She sits in it all of the time and uses it to nap her toys in. I'm nervous it won't go well if I suddenly claim it back for the new baby and just don't think it's a fight that would be worth having so I think I'm going to get a new pillow. Has anyone used the Brest friend? It seems to get really good reviews so I am thinking of giving it a go and having one of each.

Re: Boppy vs Brest Friend

  • I have a Leachco Cuddle U and loved using it, before and after breastfeeding. It's very similar to a boppy. I have not used a brest friend, but it looks cumbersome.

  • I have both and like them equally for different situations. Laying in bed or in an armchair, boppy all the way. On the couch or anywhere I didn't have side support I loved the my breast friend. It was also convenient that I could get up with DD1 still nursing and grab a burp cloth or whatever. I kind of remember favoring the my breast friend in the first few weeks because I felt it gave her a little more support and she was on the small side

My friend loved the Brest Friend for her twins. It is much more supportive/thicker/solid than a Boppy for actual feeding, but that means it doesn't work as well as a positioned/seat. My understanding is it is more of a uni-tasker, but works better than the Boppy at positioning at the breast.

  • I had both with DD, but prefered the Boppy.  The Breastfriend is much more rigid and mine had a piece that would snap around the back (don't know if they still do).  It also had two bumps in it that I guess were supposed to be where you put LO's head, but she always rolled her head off it.  I ended up using the Boppy exclusively pretty quickly. And like @mrstraxsaid...it's more versatile, for positioning LO to nurse/nap/tummy time, different nursing positions, and more.  It's really personal preference though.

  • I'm getting a brest friend because Boppy isn't sold in Canada... :(
  • My friend recommended the breast friend over the boppy. She said the boppy didn't quite "fit" her and felt like it would slide out from under baby.
  • I like my breast friend better for back support.
  • I had both w DD and preferred the Boppy. It's way more comfortable and less rigid. The strap on the breast friend was annoying, esp in the middle of the night!
  • I wanted the Brest Friend but I haven't been able to find it at a reasonable price where I live. My maternity pillow doubles as a breastfeeding pillow so I'll be going with this option.

  • I used a boppy with my first two and bought a breast friend this time around per recommendations from quite a few mom friends. I don't have any experience with it yet though.

  • Seriously though @yodiggity, the name is awful.

FWIW, I'd go with the Boppy, but I used it less for BF and more for positioning etc later on with DS.
  • I started DS with My Brest Friend as per lactation consultant recommendations.  I hated the squared off edges and felt like it was always digging into me and sat too low (perhaps a casualty of being 5'9" or perhaps c-section discomfort).  I ended up buying a Boppy and loved it. So much fluffier and supportive for me (and DS).

  • I had both and will use both again. I really liked the Brest Friend in the early days. It has much more support and helped me with the different feeding positions after my c/s (the football hold was working best for me and the BF made it work well). I made sure I brought it to the hospital when I had my second. The boppy had more uses and more longevity as my LO's got older but the BF was great to have in the early months.

  • I keep the boppy upstairs and mbf on the main floor. Boppy is easier to put on in the motn, but mbf has more back support.

  • I thought my boppy was perfect, but I'm a shorty. I've heard that taller women often prefer other options.

  • I have both and prefer the brest friend over the boppy.
  • I also had both and did the upstairs downstairs thing.  I echo @kielpinskim and had boppy upstairs for night feedings and BF downstairs for day nursing.  I will be bringing my boppy to the hospital with me this time

I totally got the brest friend and the dr. Browns bottles to hold me over until my shower/sip & see after she's born. I used m's prime account and got them in less than a week!
