1st Trimester

Has anyone gone/is anyone going on a cruise?!

I'll be going on a cruise when I am about 9 weeks along. I've been reading that week 9 is the week when nausea and migraines are worst...anyone have any tips/advice or experience with taking a cruise during the first trimester?

Re: Has anyone gone/is anyone going on a cruise?!

  • I was on a cruise right before I got my BFP. I bought motion sickness wristbands to help. They're fairly cheap and you can get them at CVS, you should try that. I wasn't sick at all but I don't if that can be attributed to the bands. Other people swear by them though. You can also get a little patch that goes behind your ear but I have no idea if it's safe in pregnancy.
Best of luck, cruises are awesome! Finally, you may not even get any morning sickness. I never had any at all.

  • I went on a cruise at 9 weeks. The sea bands, diclegis and zofran were great..plus all the carb rich food.
It was lovely and I could sleep all day.
    Thank God for Raid.

  • I went on a cruise in my 11th week and was fine. I was still queasy, but just as much as I would have been at home (i.e., the boat didn't make it worse). Bring the wristbands as ecwk said, and preggo pops or ginger chews. The only thing I did have issues with, which may just have been me, were some of the larger crowds. I'd have a hard time breathing in the crush. I just avoided them.

  • I barely liked going to work when I was 9 weeks along....I had no energy and terrible nausea. Obviously it is totally different for everyone and you may be one of the lucky ones who has no problems.

  • I haven't been on a cruise (I do get seasick), but I did get airsick when flying when I was pregnant with DS.

After almost projectile vomiting all over the plane (and it was one of those super tiny connecting planes), I called my doctor and asked for suggestions because there was no way I was going to survive my next flight.

He told me to take some dramamine, drink a Powerade, and eat some bread. It worked like a charm. I don't know how often it's ok to use dramamine, so you should absolutely call your doctor and ask for suggestions.
I'm sure they'll be able to guide you in the right direction.

    Enjoy your cruise!

  • I'm going on a cruise to the Bahamas when I'm 15 weeks and I plan on loading up on the preggo pops. They work wonders now!

  • Honestly I think I would have loved a cruise at 9 weeks, I had some major food aversions and an all you can eat buffet would have likely had at least something that I wanted to eat in the moment.  Just be careful about getting off the boat with zika out there!
  • We are leaving on a 7 day cruise tomorrow with 15 family members and I AM SO EXCITED. My doctor prescribed me two safe meds (Diclegis for morning sickness) and something else I haven't picked up yet (just in case I get bad sea sickness, although I have never been sea sick). We are staying on the boat, so it's going to be so relaxing not having a schedule...going to the spa...eating a LOT...and just sleeping is going to be wonderful! I'll be 13 weeks tomorrow, I still have a LITTLE morning sickness, but I think I'll do well. Go on a cruise, don't stress and HAVE A BLAST!
