2nd Trimester

When does the nausea/vomiting end?

I am having a hard time with nausea/vomiting.  is there a timeframe that it sometimes gets better?  Sorry for the silly question.

Re: When does the nausea/vomiting end?

  • It's different for everyone! For most after the first trimester, for others usually 16-18 weeks, and for some unlucky ladies (me win my first, ugh!) It can last all 9 months!

It's different for everyone and every pregnancy. It stopped at 7 weeks for me during my second pregnancy. But then with my third, it lasted until around 12 weeks. I know some women who've death with morning sickness their entire pregnancy.
  • Agreed with PP. I had nausea from week 6 to week 11, and that was it for me. My sister however had vomiting until she delivered at 9 months. Every pregnancy is different.

Good news, her son was and is completely happy and healthy! At 32 weeks pregnant my daughter is measuring correctly and has had a very smoothe pregnancy so far!
  • It may not. My mom was sick with all of us until the day she delivered. I'm almost 35 weeks and this has been the first week I didn't throw up.
  • ^ this it may not end  I'm 19 weeks and I've had puking off and on the whole pregnancy.

  • My first pregnancy, I was sick from week 6 until week 17. Throwing up a couple of times a week. This pregnancy, I was sick from week 5, until now (16 weeks). I am actually throwing up more in second trimester, than I was in the first trimester. My nausea stopped a few weeks ago, but now I just vomit whenever....its like there is no warning. At least in my first trimester, I would feel like hell for awhile before I would actually throw up....so I felt like I had a little forewarning. This trimester, there is no nausea, no forewarning, I just feel like I have a cough and two seconds later I am puking my guts out.

    The joys of pregnancy!

  • I'm 36 weeks and the nausea has not gone away. I'm on Diclegis because I can't risk throwing up at my desk during the work day (the bathrooms on my floor are not close, and I would certainly pee myself while vomiting at this point). The medicine helps tremendously and I almost feel 100% normal when I take it on schedule now. In the first tri, the medicine only made it somewhat bearable. So it has gotten better, but it hasn't gone away completely.

  • This is my first pregnancy, and at 14 weeks I'm still having some morning sickness. Thankfully it's only 2-3 times a week now, so I definitely see the end in sight.
  • For my first pregnancy, it ended early ( prior to entering 2nd trimester) . With this one, I'm 2 days away from 39 weeks and I'm still on diclegis. Whenever I try to get off of it, I throw up, but on it, I can function even though I still have bouts of nausea.

  • At almost 20 weeks there is no end in sight. I still throw up anywhere from 2-6 times a day and that with me being on medication.
  • Personally I had it all day every day up until about 15 weeks, and now at 20 I still throw up most mornings and anytime I eat too much. Or cough, or sneeze, or juggle my body around. My doc said that if I still have it now, it's likely to last the whole pregnancy. At least it's better than it was in first tri.
  • My all day nausea/vomiting lasted till about 15 weeks. It tapered off after that but I still take diclegis everyday because if I don't, then the nausea comes back. Im 34 weeks now. As long as I take my medicine, I feel fine. Hopefully you will start to feel better soon!
  • I'm 20 weeks and still dealing with it.
  • Mine *seemed* to go away at 16 weeks. I'm 21+2 now and had a lovely post breakfast puke session in the grocery store parking lot this morning. It's really different for every woman and every pregnancy.
  • I just made three weeks since last Vom session and it's pretty exciting.  I'm still on Diclegis and notice myself getting dry-heavey if I'm late on taking the next dose.  I'm just thinking this will be how my pregnancy is but as PPs said, everyone is different!  Good luck all!
  • Mine ended at 35 weeks when I gave birth
  • At 19 weeks I still vomit every morning even with medicine.  The nausea seems to have gone away.  However, I forgot my meds last night and threw up this morning AND am nauseous.  I guess the meds don't control my morning vomit, but are controlling the nausea.

i will say that despite the morning, I started to feel better around 17 weeks.  In general my appetite returned and I felt like a human again.  At this point I've just accepted in likely to be sick each morning and can live with that.
