1st Trimester

Symptoms

Hey everyone!  I am in my first trimester of pregnancy... I am about 6 weeks along.  I am having TERRIBLE symptoms.  Today, I came home after church and slept for 4 hours and woke up exhausted and dizzy... yet I am up at least once an hour overnight.  I'm also waking up to pee about 2 times a night. My breasts hurt so bad I can barely put on a bra.  I'm also having EXTREME nausea.... alllll dayyyy longgg.  My blood pressure is running extremely low.... when I lay down it's almost as if my heart can't even keep up with my body.  I also have been bloating like crazy.  I can't even make it through the day without unbuttoning my pants for an hour or two :x On top of all of this, I have migraines and smell/food aversions.  My doctor says this is all normal.....I am very thankful for the symptoms because I know they are my body's way of working on this miracle inside me.... HOWEVER... if anyone has any advice for any of my symptoms it would be greatly appreciated!  My family and friends aren't aware that I am pregnant yet.... I'm also a school teacher which believe it or not isn't the easiest job to hide these symptoms.  Thank you everyone in advance for any advice!!!!!

Re: Symptoms

  • Lots of water and stay active! Like your doctor said, all normal symptoms.
  • Loading the player...
  • - water helps with bloating, as well as staying away from foods high in sodium.
    - eating as soon as i woke up helped with nausea, as well as drinking Gatorade & munching on saltine crackers. they also have these candies called "Preggie Pops" that are supposed to help with nausea.

as for the rest of it, there isn't a whole lot you can do. like your doctor said, it's all normal stuff that we all go through. you most likely will feel relief from some of these symptoms as you get closer to 2nd Tri.

Or she's just pregnant and she's peeing 2x a night. Like me. And lots of other pregnant women. No need to scare her.

  • I think it's important to be informed. If you are having really frequent urination it could be a sign of a uti. To me 2x a night does not sound bad but it's important for the op to understand if it gets bad, we are talking 7+ times a night in the 1st trimester, you could have a uti. I've had several this pregnancy and the only symptom I had was peeing a lot more. It's not like we jumped to cancer or anything. Let's take a breather.

It's not "that much" though, it's only twice a night.

she's only peeing twice a night. if it was more frequent than that, maybe she should considera UTI, but not for only 2x a night.
  •  Holy crap people take a chill pill we've had several people on our board have UTIs with no symptoms other than feeling the need to pee more then normal for them,

I was just telling that OP if she felt like it was more than usual she could talk to her doctor I don't think it's terrible to share some things to keep in mind. I agree two times isn't a lot but she felt the need to mention it that's all

No one is going off at you? Peeing 2x a night is not indicative of a UTI and it seems a bit dramatic to jump to that. If there was pain, fever, lethargy or burning sensation then, yeah. Or if she was peeing every hour and not feeling "empty". It's just a little arm flaily to attribute perfectly normal pregnancy symptoms to an infection

Yeah because most pregnant women who pee twice a night probably have UTIs??

For her it was a change and she felt the need to mention it and you all told me how dramatic and wrong I was. Maybe in this case you could simply say whoops I was wrong feel better OP since UTI's that are not caught can get really bad.

You're right, I did mean to say to OP that I am glad you got your diagnosis.
However, for every one pregnant woman who pees twice a night and ends up having a UTI there are many many many more who pee that much or more and who don't have UTIs. I still think it's dramatic to jump to that conclusion even if it sometimes is correct. I don't think anyone earned a "pregnant Ph.D." because of a fluke diagnosis --> that was my point above anyway.

  • @ecwk for the record I never once said I earned one and never tried to rub it in your face I was right others i guess felt after how you all said I was so wrong that it was interesting how I turned out to be right.

take your bitterness else where and for the record i also was just diagnosed with an UTI my only symptoms peeing 1-2 times a night feeling bloated and hip pain. The dr even said UTI's manifest very differently for women when they are pregnant. So please stop saying it was a fluke just to discredit my suggestion as it helped her get the medical attention she needed. If I had been wrong I wouldn't have been so negative and bitter towards you.

Ok, relax please. My Phd comment was obviously directed @thebigoaktree so I'm sorry that it offended you.
Sorry that you have a UTI but I'm not really sure why you're getting so upset here. I think your diagnosis was a fluke but you don't have to agree with me, it's no big deal.

I think everyone's pregnancy is different and no one fits in a one size fits all category. You all were a tad snarky to @Lindsayleigh1989 and were wrong. That's why I find it funny that she was proven correct. You all tried your hand at a medical diagnosis and were wrong. That's were the medical PHD comment comes from.

  • *waves hand* I'm another 'weirdo' who had a uti at 6wks with the only symptom being waking up ONCE to pee. It never hurts to check!

Anywho, here's somethings I am doing as this is my second time around:
Eat small snacks to keep the nausea at bay, keep almonds or whole wheat crackers at your bed and munch on a few when you wake up in the middle of the night. Having an empty tummy makes it worse. Eat right away in the morning, even if it's a piece of toast. I also sip on water with citrus through out the day. Keep heathy snacks in your purse. Listen to your cravings, I believe it's the body telling us what we need. Take all vitamins with food.

Some people swear that aromatherapy using citrus or peppermint essential oils helps MS at bay too, if that's your thing.

I also take a magnesium supplements and B complex vitamins. So far I've been MS FREE!

GO to sleep early and sleep in when you can! I've been going to bed 2 hours earlier these days and taking naps when I can. Don't fight it! I'm wondering if your blood sugar is low when you're feeling dizzy, if it had been a while since you ate? Always a thought.

And lastly, as soon as I can fit into my maternity pants, IM doing it and I'm not feeling guilty. I waited so long last time because I hated the idea, but gosh spandex is heavenly lol so are sleep bras and sports bras, those are my current buddies. Good luck!
