progesterone???

Hi ladies. I'm currently 15weeks 4days and I am supposed to start progesterone shots once a weeks from 16weeks till 36weeks. This is our third baby, but second with the progesterone shots. I just talked to the company that will be delivering my medication and they said I can't go to the Dr office now itnhas to be a home health nurse administering the shots! Has anyone dealt with this before?

Re: progesterone???

  • I just started mine last week, and it was a similar situation. The home health nurse comes, checks vitals, does a med rec, and gives me the shot. Takes about 30 min. I asked why I had to have home health since I'm an RN, and my husband gave me all the progesterone in oil shots for IVF. She said the 17p shots are concentrated without a preservative so they have to be administered by homehealth, but the Makena shots can be self-administered. I really didn't push the issue since my insurance covers it. Plus, I'm on bedrest, so it's nice having someone come over occasionally!

  • I had low progesterone in my first trimester and took supplements but was able to stop after 13 weeks. Can I ask why you have to have shots from 16-36 weeks?
  • Mine are to prevent preterm labor, since my first was born at 30 weeks. They are given weekly from week 16-36.
  • I am starting mine tomorrow because my son was born at 34 weeks. I am nervous. I like that the nurse comes here so that I don't have to change DS'S schedule too much.
  • Mine is for preterm labor as well. Both my babies I had preterm labor with. My last one I had to go every week to the Dr office. So it was weird to me that my Dr CA not administer them now.
