Fetal heart monitors?

I know it's still early, but is anyone thinking of getting one?  I bought one for each of my children's pregnancies and I loved them so much!  I'm thinking of ordering one at about 7 weeks so it gets here around 8 (when I've been able to hear the heartbeat in previous pregnancies).  I'm also wondering where people are getting theirs.  They are getting so cheap now! :open_mouth:

Re: Fetal heart monitors?

  • I don't care for them because they tend to stress me out vs. help me.

  • I can understand that. I guess we all have different ways to minimize stress. :)

  • I have a Doppler and if it still works I'll use it again. It helps ease my mind and I've gotten extremely good at finding the hb. When I was pregnant with my daughter my doctor couldn't find her hb at 12 weeks, so I was freaking out. I was able to come home and take time and find it on my own.

Now, you have to be ready to not panic if you can't find it right away. It can be nerve-wracking.

  • I have one that I've used for both my other pregnancies and I will use it this time around also.  I have the Sonoline B and I love it.  I didn't use it often but when I did, it was fun, especially so my parents could hear the babies.  After a while, you'll start feeling movement and won't need it for reassurance but I'll tell you that I still used it because there was something comforting hearing the steady horse galloping beats coming form my ute.

  • So true, ladies!  I had friends that couldn't find the HB and it would stress them out.  IDK, there were days I couldn't find it but I knew it was normal to not find it all the time in those early days.  I've had a few miscarriages so it really keeps my sanity during the first tri. :)
@Bornmommy, I think I had the Sonoline B last pregnancy too!  I will probably end up finding another one of those, hopefully on CL or ebay. :)

  • I was able to hear it at 9 weeks during my 2nd pregnancy. That's definitely not normal though. My Doppler is directly from an OB, though, like the ones they use in their offices, so I don't know if that makes a difference or not.

  • I was able to hear the heartbeat with my last pregnancy at 8 weeks on the dot with the Sonoline B, 8 1/2 with my second born and 9 1/2 with my first born.  My uterus tilts pretty dramatically forward though, so I think that is why I can pick it up so early.

  • I actually only got my second baby once on my own.  I'm terrible at it haha.  My husband, however, got it steady at 9 weeks and could get it within 5 seconds of trying every time.
