Help! Do I call the DR?

So I've had a cold and a fever since Friday.  I've kept the fever under control with tylenol and it hasn't gone over 101.5, but today I noticed some LIGHT brown discharge.  Now I'm scared that I caused a miscarriage by not getting help for what is a minor cold earlier.  Should I call the DR?  It's Sunday so I don't even know if they will have an answering service.  I'm 5 weeks and 6 days today.  Any advice would be so helpful.  My last pregnancy ended with a stillborn son at 25 weeks and I'm just really scared.  :frowning:

Re: Help! Do I call the DR?

  • If you are concerned, and cannot get a hold of your doctor, go to urgent care or the ER for treatment.

I can tell you that if it were me, I would not be concerned, because a controlled fever is not a problem, and light brown discharge is common. However, I can't tell YOU if YOU should be concerned, especially considering your history.

Hi, if you have had a fever for more than 48 hours I would suggest going to an urgent care. Brown discharge is usually not a major cause for concern but having a fever for an extended period of time can be worrisome at this point in your pregnancy. Does your insurance have a nurses line or your ob have a nurses line? Most have an answering service where they will allow you to leave a message and a medical professional will call back. If you've kept your fever at bay then there is probably nothing to worry about. Make sure you are getting TONS of fluids (gatorade is good as it replenishes electrolytes)
  • I personally would seek medical advice whether it be via a phone call, or a stop into urgent care. My primary doc told me that ibuprofen is okay to take until a certain point in pregnancy as well as sudafed. Your doctor may give you similar advice, or may tell you the opposite. You won't know without asking.
  • I would talk to your doctor's nurse line etc. However, you can't "cause miscarriage". If it happens to you, and I really hope it doesn't, then its nothing you've done wrong. I'm so sorry for your previous loss and understand your fear, but miscarriage are random and usually not preventable. Please do your best to drink your water and take it easy until you have answers.

  • Call your doctor. Not to scare you, because brown blood can be normal, but both of my losses started with a small amount of brown discharge. Fingers crossed that's not the case for you!

  • Sticky thoughts to you and hoping that spotting goes away. My old perinatalogist had a saying, "if it's brown, slow it down. If it's red, stay in bed." Maybe take it easy, call the Drs answering service and rehydrate?  Hugs...

  • Rule of thumb - If you ever think you should call, you should call.

I'm not trying to be dismissive or whatever but the internet really can't tell you what's normal for you in any circumstance.  You pay your provider for their expertise.  Call, if for nothing more than reassurance.

Thinking of you.  Definitely going to echo @PinkLady2015 and say hydrate as much as possible.
