For all parents and moms to be - check babies toes.

Re: For all parents and moms to be - check babies toes.

  • An extreme case-- but a good reminder! Checking for hair in the diaper-- especially for moms of boys where it can wrap around stuff is also important-- those MOTN diaper changes once post-partum shedding kicks in can cause trouble. We never ended up with a dangerous situation, but hair got wrapped for a minute enough times that I chopped off my long hair and the donated locks by the time DS was 2 months.

  • I am soooo paranoid about this. My hair falls out all the time!

  • This happened to one of my friends at work.  Her pediatrician was able to remove it, but yeah - I kept an eye out for stray hairs and checked the feet of all footie pajamas for loose threads.  I also kept my hair in a ponytail/bun, rather than washing & blow drying (right - that's why!).

  • I was super paranoid about this as well. It was always one of the first things I checked when DD was upset and hard to calm. My mom is an ER nurse and has seen it a couple of times, but all of the toes and fingers she's seen have been just fine after releasing the hair/string/whatever.
  • I'd be careful with strings. But hair? Seriously? This cannot be that common.
  • My niece fell asleep with a string around her finger when she was 3.  She is extremely lucky she didn't lose it.  The color and lines was a sight I will never forget.

I've found hair entwined in my niece's fingers on several occasions. This isn't surprising at all....

It must be relatively common. Our pediatrician mentioned to us to keep an eye out for it at every single appt from birth to 1yr with DS.

    DS: 9/18/12 - 40w5d // DD: 05/17/16 - 40w

I can't tell you how many times I've found strands of my hair firmly wrapped around something I just pulled out of the laundry. Or found it somewhere weird/completely random. It doesn't go more than an inch or so past my shoulders usually, and I always make sure to brush my hair thoroughly, but they still manage to find their way around the place. I mean, it's not like I'm just continuously shedding the way that my cats do, but it happens. And right now? I've got that awesomely lush pregnancy hair that everyone raves about (thick hair for the first time in my life woooooo!!). I'd be more excited about it if I didn't know that I've got that whole postpartum shedding experience ahead of me. So, yeah, this whole thing does not surprise me at all.
