Baby getting upset every time it smells your milk?

Anyone else's Bub getting upset more often than not when you try to cuddle them because they frantically sniff out your milk? My little boy is an absolute guts, and even when he is full he loves to be on the boob to comfort suck. It's getting me a bit down. I just want to cuddle him, but most times I do he ends up upset if he's not on the breast!

  • Same here! It's hard for me to hold him unless he's really sleepy bc he starts rooting.

  • Here too.  I almost never get any snuggles.  We're also supposed to be supplementing with formula and I can't do that either.
  • We've just started formula here. Before he arrived I was so against formula. Now that I've developed mastitis in the boob that normally provides the bulk of his feed, I didn't really have much option! I'm now expressing every time he feeds, and then some, hoping to bring my supply back up soon. I also have thrush on my nipple (didn't know that was possible..) which makes breastfeeding difficult.
Thinking about following MILs advice and giving him a dummy. I've found if I stick the end of my pinkie in his mouth when I'm holding him and he's rooting, yet I know he's full, the pinky satisfies him. Was so against dummies (pacifiers) to start with too, but the days are going to be very long if I can't settle him!!

  • Yup. She is such a guts- comfort feeds and HATES the dummy.
  • @jencook25 be sure to nurse on the breast with mastitis! It won't hurt the baby and will really help clear things up faster for you!
  • My baby girl is the same. But today I tried on my wrap and wore her while she slept against me, not rooting, for almost 4 hours. It was heavenly. She just slept, I got cuddles, and my hands were free...
