Possum or am I hallucinating

Hello ladies was wondering if any of your LO are sleeping with one eye on you? I feel like my LO is always looking at me with one eye slightly crack. He immediately wakes up when I leave but could he be doing this so young? I feel like he is screwing with my head or the hallucinations from being left alone with him too long. Then the other day I was saying "hi" to him and he said "Hi!" Back AM I GOING CRAZY? LO just made 2 months!!!

Re: Possum or am I hallucinating

  • Haha! My LO is 5 weeks but she definitely keeps one eye cracked until she's REALLY asleep.

  • DD didn't do this but DS definitely did. Even weirder, my brother and SIL had a foster baby that would frequently sleep with both eyes open. He'd just go limp with this vacant expression like the lights were on but no one was home.

DD does wake up if I leave though. I finally figured out if I play soft lullabies she doesn't notice if I leave her crib to lay down (my bed is right next to her crib but apparently even this is too great a separation) or leave the room.
  • My dd doesn't do the eye thing- but we say "Hi baby!" to her all the time, and there have been a few times that the noises she makes back to us really do sound like "Hi."
  • DDs bassinet is next to my side of the bed. She'll wake up just to make sure I'm still there. Most nights I have to keep my hand on her chest or give her a finger to hold until she is out. I swear she senses when I leave the room though! Every single time she will cry if I'm not in the same room as her. And a triple yes to hearing words! I was recording DD yesterday and she started to cry and said "why!!!!" I was weirded out. Haha
  • I told my husband that our (seven-week-old) boy is a faker! Sometimes when he's "sleeping" in my arms I look down at him and I swear I see him close his eyes real quick and turn his cute 80th percentile head. FAKER!!!

@DandT2point0 mine does the same things!!! When he's full and lets go of my boob but hasn't gone to sleep he'll close his eyes so I think he's asleep and don't try to give him my boob. I've looked down and he's looking at me but immediately closes them. It cracks me up every time. They're so smart!!! I'm smiling thinking about it.
  • Whatever you do, don't watch Bang Bang Baby. It'll make it even trippier.
  • My DS definitely falls asleep with one eye open and frequently checks that he is still being held, he sleeps very well as long as he is cuddling with one of us but wakes up quickly if we try to put him down (& he wakes up livid that we betrayed him...)! My brother imitated rythms long before he could speak real words most famously he "parrot-ed" the rhythm of "I love you" back to my mom when she said it, so I think it is possible. My DS occasionally sounds like he's saying hi too :)

    What's that?
  • @Knottie67744546 It's a movie. The town gets contaminated and she's pregnant. The baby comes out talking. It's a gross oversimplification of the plot but I could've done without seeing it at the end of pregnancy and all the pregnancy dreams.
  • My LO does this too. Looks like she's sleeping with one eyed cracked just to make sure you don't put her down. She also mimicks saying "HEY" sometimes. She even tries to get the pitch right to how I say it.
