Only showing 4 weeks on scan

Hi everyone..pls help me..I had my LMP on the 4th of Dec..However we only started having sex on the 23rd of Dec..Fertile and ovulation days show from the 2-7 Jan..so today I went for my first ob/gyn visit..thinking that I was 8 weeks (4dec-4feb) I have very irregular cycles..However I only showed 4 weeks on the ultrasound..my doctor was concerned and sent me for hcg levels..and another scan in 2 weeks..I'm so anxious and don't know what to expect..did this happen to anyone else?what was the outcome?

Unless you had confirmed O from ultrasound/blood work it's hard to know exactly when you O'd. My LMP was Nov 23 but I'm only 7w4d. I have PCOS and crazy cycles. Try not to worry too much until your next scan, you really can't know more until then.

Implantation time can vary. And lmp is not always accurate for many different reasons.

You probably just ovulated later than you thought. I have irregular cycles as well, sometimes you don't even ovulate at all with irregular cycles. I thought my first appointment would show 8 weeks... I was 5 and all was well. It happens a lot!

Were you temping. If you were you can add 2 weeks to that date you ovulated to figure out what you should be measuring. Calculating EDD based on LMP assumes you ovulate on CD 14, most people don't. I O'd on CD 19 the cycle I conceived. I haven't been to my first appointment yet, but I expect them to adjust my EDD.

You have stated that: LMP was Dec 4 and your fertile / ovulation days were CD29 to CD34. (What were you using to determine O?) Using your LMP to determine how far along you are assumes that ovulation is around CD 14 and you've also stated that you have irregular cycles so I would not be looking at LMP to determine dates.

If ovulation occurred at the beginning of January (and may have been later than you thought and or implantation was on the longer side), then based on all of that, 4 weeks is not unreasonable. HOWEVER, you'll have to wait for the hcg levels to come back and for your next scan to have a better idea.
